Geekerwan’s Review of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (Xiaomi 14).

I have to say that kind of attitude is not hugely confidence inspiring whether he’s right or wrong on this particular topic. But I guess I don’t have that level of … shall we say self-confidence, certainly not anymore.

More germane would be if he posted details of the bug and explained how it affects the results, but maybe he goes into that in another post?

I understand when he was working at Anandtech not posting details of the lack of optimization in CB R23. He was a journalist, the optimization issue was told to him in confidence about a private codebase, it was pretty obvious from results, and the later R24 release with fixes proved him right. This is a little different. The results might point to an issue but this is an open source code base and he’s working for the affected company. If he’s going to make that assertion in public, he has to back that up.

If these benchmarks hold, my prediction is that the X2 Elite Extreme will have the MT performance of about the M5 Pro but at higher power draw, lower ST performance, and a much weaker GPU. I’m making the prediction wrt the M5 since that should be out roughly contemporaneously with the X2 and on the same node.

I do find it interesting how disparate the results are compared with the A19 Pro vs the Gen 5 ones in terms of GPU. It really shows the difference between mobile gaming (more CPU focused?) and the ability or at least willingness to scale up GPU performance from phones to laptops.
