How are we feeling about iOS 26?

well its apples horrible voice recognition.
is it? I have had airtag location notification disabled at a particular location (my office) directly from the find my app, then found that a month later they turn themselves back on. Nothing to do with voice recognition.

I have one that does the same thing. I turn if off, it turns itself back on.

Still trying to wrap my head around how the unknown caller feature is supposed to work or maybe it's just buggy. On average I get about a have dozen scam calls a day. Previously I'd just ignore the call and it would go to voicemail. Then I have have to manually go in block the numbers and delete the voicemails. Now all those calls get silenced but I'm still getting 3 - 4 voicemails.

I was under the impression that if the caller can't state their name and why they are calling then it wouldn't get sent to voicemail either.

I appreciate that I am in the minority here - but overall I'm not overly happy with the iOS 26 release to date. Typlically 1.0 releases of any new iOS update are quite a bit buggy and each year I tell myself to ignore the nice shiney and wait for the .1 or .2 release before upgrading. Each year I don't listen past self me and just upgrade for the sh**s and giggles!

This year it really backfired for me (so far at least).

I have an iPhone 16 Pro and I notice quite a few stuttering animations since the upgrade to iOS 26 and I have also observed a pretty awful battery drain with safari relative to IOS 18.

Overall, for my very subjective tastes, I do NOT like the aero/glass direction that Apple is going one bit. I wondered if it would grow on me and to date at least it has not.

It's a pity because i love the new iPhone hardware, but finding it hard to love the iOS 26.

Can't believe that I'm going to say this, but I'm half tempted to test drive a Google Pixel 10 Pro for a little bit... yup I know the processor isn't anywhere in the same ballpark, but the software presentation for the apps that I use looks pretty great and I gotta admit I'm really liking Gemini AI assistant, finding it incredibly useful.

This might just be an itch and I'll come with my tail between my legs running back to Apple.... we'll see!

Funny thing is, back when I would jailbreak my iphones, this is the theme I always used, so I'm quite happy with it.

The only drag I'm finding is on my newest device - the iPad mini, and that's mostly in Safari.

My husband uses a Pixel, but we are a mixed marriage.

My phone is a pixel, because I do not use my phone for every damn thing. It is mostly just a phone. Just the other day, because I have been not at home and the Internet in this house is broken, I discovered I can plug my iPad into my phone for an "Ethernet" hotspot, which is better than a wireless hotspot because it does not demand a password, it is slightly faster, and I turn it off just by unplugging the cable.

A question... I have iOS 18.7 on my 16 PM. Am I correct in assuming that should I update to iOS 26 and not like it, going back to 18.7 is not possible?

That's what I've read. I would really urge you to play with the new liquid glass interface for a while if possible on another device. A lot of people hate it and there is no way to turn it off, it can be dialed down but that's about it, so you'll be stuck with it.

I'm learning to live with it but not a fan at all, it is what it is.

Looks like 26.1 beta improves Liquid Glass transparency effects. Gonna wait this out until 26.1 and see if it grows on me.
On the flip side, I absolutely love iPad os 26 😂

Go figure 🤯

Probably best to wait to see if this actually sticks. 26.0 Beta 3 had changes similar to this iirc, and they wound it back mostly.

It would be nice if they simply made liquid glass an option that you can toggle on or off, it's not like it bakes functionality into the phone, it's essentially a theme that's forced on you.

Let me see, if you have a liquid glass interface for an app that does its own machine learning using the Apple GPU API, then the sum of that is liquid metal. This could turn out badly.
