No, for the love of God, No!

I think there should be a law that before you run for office you need to at least be a resident of the same planet. And despite evidence to the contrary, Washington DC is not located in the US or earth. There's plenty of legislative and rhetoric evidence to back up that it isn't. Most DC politicians haven't even met or mingled with these supposed citizens they claim to represent.

It's like we're harvesting our candidates from nursing homes. I think Dems should run with Newsom, he has rock star power. On the right they could always run with Rubio or DeSantis, we've had too much of the old guard.

Not necessarily.

In recent years, you have had Barack Obama, who was 'cool", and young, and who also hailed from an African American heritage (among others).

And Bill Clinton was pretty young when he first became President, (younger than Barack Obama, both were in their mid forties), while Jimmy Carter was in his early fifties when he assumed office.

Personally, I think that HRC was treated poorly in 2008 (not by Obama himself, but by some of the cool young dudes in his campaign, sexism is still sexism even if it comes from liberals or those on the left) and was both robbed - and treated appallingly - in 2016.

However, I also think that her day has passed; she would have been - or could have been - a fine president in 2008, and would - without a doubt - have been a far better president then the person who assumed office in January 2017.

But, it is now high time to let others - others who are unemcumbered by the baggage that trails in her wake, - step forward.

It’s high time for age limits on this job. Actually, all 3 branches of government.

I am no fan of HRC. TBH, I've a Clinton-hater (Bill and Hillary) for nearly three decades. So of course I shudder to think that she is even considered a viable candidate. At the same time, if voters choose her, so be it. Same if the The Crank of Vermont™ decides to throw his crusty into the ring for 2024. Let the voters decide as they often get what they deserve.

I'm more concerned with next year's midterms and local elections in some key places. Depending on voter turnout and voter suppression by the GOP, 2024 may be a forgone conclusion.

Curious as to why if I may ask? I have my reasons, more Hillary than Bill, but it shouldn't be a mystery for why I am not a fan.
I think she's always had a likeability problem and, lest we forget, there was some real division amongst Democrats in 2008 when Obama took center stage and squeezed her out, some have never gotten over that. IMO she's a policy wonk and I do like that about her but she's never really been able to win over the hearts of people and it's always been her biggest downfall.

Are you sure high exposure to right ring media didn’t convert you into a zombie HRC hater on some level? You voted for Trump, who is an incompetent toddler in an old man’s body instead of a highly knowledgeable person who would have actually done the job of being a president instead of grift the fuck out of everything.

I know this question wasn't aimed at me, but for those of us on the left who have a severe dislike for Bill, his administration is often sighted as when the Democrats shifted from being champions of the working class to being corporatists and going after the big money corruption that was previously associated with Republicans. It's also when Democrats started passing the Republican agenda but they did it with a hug and a smile instead of a middle finger. So Democrats largely slept through it (and continue to). As an example he greatly increased the black incarceration rate while hugging their babies. So I guess he's a good guy.

No, I didn't like her back when Bill was running and this was even before FoxNews existed.

Other than her being unlikable, I think she is the left's version of Trump. You know they did some sketchy stuff, but have always gotten away with it for whatever reason.

What's interesting is I would take Bill back as President any day and twice on Tuesday. Once he got his ass handed to him in the '94 midterms, he settled down and worked with both sides and things were good for about 7 years. Then 9/11 upended everything.

He greatly increased the black incarceration rate while hugging their babies. So I guess he's a good guy.

With help from our current President who gets a pass on all of it for some reason.

I mentioned in another thread a while back that I heard some black progressive activist going off with "Now the racist is out of the white house?! WTF are you talking about?!" in regards to Biden's race relations history.

When BC was running for president I got enough inside info on him from those in the know to form my opinion of him: he is a huckster through and through. With HRC and the godawful Carville, they pandered to whomever could give them an edge. I took to calling the Clintonistas Poll Weasels. Wherever the political winds blows is where you'll see them pivot.

Add on his racial/racist performances and it's political bullshit to super-polished degree. His attack on Sister Souljah wasn't about confronting racism. It was putting Jesse Jackson in his place. He specifically waited for Jackson's event to -- what my elders would rightly term -- show his ass. He was telling Jackson and Black people, and more importantly, white voters and pols that he was not going to be held hostage to Black voters. He wanted to break the GOP's hold as the party of white voters. Nothing more, nothing less. If he and his team thought that embracing Sister Souljah would earn more one vote than attacking her, he would have been on her like white on rice.

HRC knows her shit. Unfortunately, she sometimes doesn't quite get it that voters often think two things: "Know your shit" but sometimes "Know you're shit!" She was super arrogant in 2008 and thought she had the nomination in the bag. She should have never lost against Obama. Edwards should have been her biggest worry. His sex scandal and subsequent exit should have been her golden ticket to the White House. The fact that she lost to Mango 8 years later (admittedly with Comey, The Russians, the GOP's racist and anti-Dem voter suppression schemes, and numbingly stupid "progressive" whiners voters choosing to vote 3rd party assisting) proves she didn't learn from past mistakes.

There has always been pro-corporate factions within the Democratic party. The old slave-owning Southern Aristocracy that morphed into anti-worker, exclusively pro-business pocket pols was greatly expanded after Clinton. It wasn't a coincidence that a Southern boy expanded that faction. People often forget that Carter (another Southerner) was somewhat in that mold when he ran and started as President. His image and actions are far more progressive now compared to candidate Carter and President Carter.

TBF, what white politician can you name that has a better "race relations history"? Honest question. I think the few that are looked upon as having good relations with The Black Community™ all have racial skeletons in their political and/or personal closets. When Obama chose Biden as his VP candidate, there were collective groans from many Black people and progressives. Some deemed it the end of his candidacy. Once they won and he served in office under Obama, effectively becoming his pit bull, Biden's bonafides were established in the minds of many African Americans. They never thought he was perfect. That he redeemed himself (at least partially) given his past record with what he was doing to put forth Obama's agenda. It helped given the rise of Birtherism. Who knew calling the country's first Black President a Kenyan would turn off Black voters! :sneaky: In 2008/2012/2016 the alternative was far, far worse: Black voters were not going to vote for McCain/Romney/Mango!!!

An extreme analogy here, but I sometimes feel with some politicians it’s like the person who massacred your family shows up to your house, their assistant pulls you aside and says “ok, but they aren’t like that now.”, and you’re just supposed to welcome them in with a warm embrace. Important to note, their assistant said it, not them. They didn’t say it because they either don’t regret massacring your family, thought it was no big deal, or they don’t want to lose the support of the people who thought massacring your family was a good thing. Anyway, just hug it out. Water under the bridge.

My issue is largely with lefty voters who think their politicians are saints or are given a pass on a lot of issues because they feel Republicans are so much worse. There are still many who think Clinton's biggest or only offense was getting a blowjob.
