The fanfic on this one is spicy.
So this seems incredibly unlikely to be accepted and even the report says there isn’t an actual offer, but the fact that Qualcomm is reportedly even considering making an offer is amazing:
Qualcomm reportedly explores buying portions of Intel's PC client business
Qualcomm could be Intel's way out of its financial problems.www.tomshardware.com
The initial reports said Qualcomm only wanted the client business ... but it seems their ambitions have increased?
It's not clear from the Verge/NYT exactly which parts Qualcomm asked Intel about and Qualcomm hasn't yet made a formal offer. That even an initial query has been made at all is simply incredible. Even beyond Intel's willingness to sell, the NYT article points out that regulators would be unlikely to simply rubber stamp such an acquisition.
I know Broadcom tried to buy Qualcomm about 6 years ago.lol how times change. weren't intel looking to buy Qualcomm or their tech only a couple of years ago?
Would such a purchase actually reduce competition?Qualcomm is apparently still interested in buying Intel’s client division but is waiting until after the election to make any formal offers (presumably because they know the Biden administration’s FTC is much more aggressively anti-merger than Trump’s would likely be and Harris’ would probably be more similar to Biden’s). Truthfully though so many regulators would have to approve that this seems hard even if the US suddenly became complacent - never mind Intel’s reaction (hostile take overs are a good deal more expensive). Qualcomm would of course know this given their own history of (correctly imo) opposing Nvidia’s takeover of ARM. Just seems very unlikely.
Two companies that are allegedly looking to acquire/merge with Intel are Apple and Samsung. Tom speculates both companies are after Intel for its foundry business.
As always, these are rumours and should be treated as such until proven otherwise.
Next year's Panther Lake has the potential to take the fight to Apple in performance-per-watt thanks to 18A improvements such as RibbonFET and backside power delivery.
Yeah. No.New rumour alleges Samsung and Apple are looking to acquire Intel
Moore's Law is Dead has heard from sources that Samsung and Apple are looking to acquire Intel. Both companies are allegedly after Intel's foundry business, which would give them unfiltered access to cutting-edge nodes from Intel.www.notebookcheck.net
Huh …
Indeed
Hmmm …
