Wow, that's a pretty exotic thermal management system (for a phone).

Are we ready for Vapor Gate™ ?

The biggest problem I've had with my 15 Pro Max is overheating. I may be changing my mind about waiting.

A19 Pro has 4x compute vs 3x for A19. The ANE was previously bandwidth limited at 128 GB/s while the GPU could use the full memory bandwidth. I had been really hoping they’d go this route for the ANE. I wonder how it’ll be integrated into Metal vs CoreML.

I love the emphasis on durability, which has been a bit of a sore spot with Apple.

No difference between the Pro and the Pro Max other than size this time?

I am not able to watch the keynote since I’m stuck in the mountains with limited internet coverage. Is that what they said about the GPU ML performance or was it about something else?

Something I’m wondering about is that the new GPU has doubled math capabilities (as foreshadowed by the patent I discussed earlier), but the performance improvements are rather modest. Maybe they have downclocked the GPU to improve the battery life?

The camera improvements look good, though not enough to make me get rid of my 15 Pro Max, which still isn't fully paid off. Looking forward to see what the 18 offers. If I had the original AirPods Pro, I'd upgrade to the new version, but my APP 2 are fine.

They didn’t go into detail, but the ANE cores have been moved into the GPU. This was mentioned just after talking about the GPU having second-gen dynamic caching and faster math, so it looks like there may be separate improvements.

Yeah they said up to 4x compute vs A18 Pro. 2x FP16. 40-50% better performance overall. Second gen Dynamic Caching.

Really, is that what they said? No more separate ANE? That is quite surprising.

edit: I am looking at the images and the ANE cores are still visibly present in the A19 Pro SoC depiction. So I’m inclined to interpret this in the most conservative way that the matmul performance of the new GPU cores is 4x of the old GPU cores. Which is a bit disappointing to be honest (and in line with my speculation thst the new mixed pipeline is used to support dot product computation).

There is still an ane. No mention of performance improvements in it afaik. What were you thinking the gpu cores uplift would be?
