Summary: "Suspended at MacRumors?"

Key Points & Conclusions

  • Cmaier was permanently banned from MacRumors; this is reportedly his second permanent ban
  • Multiple forum members have experienced suspensions or warnings from MacRumors for posts they consider trivial or unjustified
  • Examples of suspension triggers include: self-referential language, posts discussing capitalism/socialism, and posts with mild political undertones
  • Members report MacRumors moderators retrospectively dissect posts and delete evidence of violations without clear warning trails
  • Several users have migrated to this alternative forum, which they perceive as having better moderation and more substantive discussions
  • Members cite MacRumors as having increased "juvenile whineage" and low-quality discourse, particularly about Apple and Tim Cook
  • The forum is still valued by some for specific topics like photography, Mac hardware orders, and technical discussions
  • General consensus: MacRumors' moderation is inconsistent, overly strict, and sometimes contradictory (e.g., moving a thread then banning the original poster)

Areas of Disagreement

No significant disagreements exist among participants. The thread shows broad agreement that MacRumors has problematic moderation practices. Members largely sympathize with banned/suspended users and express frustration with the platform's enforcement of rules. One minor point of lighthearted debate occurs regarding what qualifies as "redneck" clothing (Carhartt vs. Dickies), but this is clearly joking and off-topic rather than substantive disagreement.

Does Dickies count? That's pretty much all I wear for t-shirts.
I can't do Dickies. We made too much fun of kids in school who wore it. I mean we were 12 year old boys and well, Dickies. :ROFLMAO:

Have you ever owned a Joy Dog Food hat?

No, but multiple NASCAR hats. Does that count?

Or I can order one here:

For the sake of this conversation, I'll say it does.

...more than Carhartt, at least. Hell, everyone wears Carhartt, Herd!

I know. It is kind of depressing that it has been co-oped by suburban redneck wannabes. I do still have some older brown duck pants and a jacket. :)

But I have put up hay for a nickel a bail.

I got a warning for, get this, referring to MYSELF as a redneck.
Just going to say that you've always been on the up and up though. People often attack you personally (not just there but here too) and while we may disagree on politics, you always stick with attacking the argument, not the person you're debating with. Antonin Scalia once made this point about arguing cases and while I cringe at the fact that I'm citing him lol, he was right on that point IMO.

lol.

i don't think i've been suspended yet but i got a warning for this:

I mean really...

"Political post in non political forum".

And calling USD "Freedom bills" isn't...

I think I’m done with the shit show of a forum called MacRumors. I started an AI thread, AI in Our lives, thought it would get closed. It was moved from The Community forum to the Apple Tech forum. It was not closed, and it took off. I got suspended today for violating the forum’s politics and religion rules, with this post, even though I nether mentioned politics or religion. Fuck’m. 🤬

This:
Why is Capitalism, a for-profit, disenfranchisement scheme be the best thing for AI? A constant theme, Capitalism is not motivated for improving “our” situation, it’s motivated to achieve advantages for “self” or “my team” (members subject to change) in the market place, and really it’s people I’m talking about.

If the excesses of human greed are willfully kept in check, then capitalism can work, but as very evident, it has a distinct inability to deal with the group, social stability, viability, prosperity for all or at least most, cause it’s not part of the business model of making profits.

Sadly, accruing capital frequently involves disenfranchising others, knowingly doing so, but pretending that there is no choice as in “our hands were forced”, which in the 70’s based on the first corporation to export manufacturing, based on how the system is set up, there was no choice to remain competitive.

Why? The system is based on competing for profits. Ironically this makes an argument for socialism and communism to have the potential to be the systems best suited to move the species into the future, as long as corruption is not tolerated, and people can get over their greed tendencies and get with the program.

Yet, I predict there’re people who dream of being Kings, surrounded by servants to wait on them. When the motivation includes the mindset to work for “us”, AI, automation, technology in general has to be a plus as long as a full appreciation of the pluses and minuses exist, that the full costs are included in the calculation and not instead disposed of in the atmosphere, our drinking water, or exported to another part of the world (which is ultimately still our problem) and that we don’t lose a grip on our technology, forget how to do everything.

I don’t know what any of that means, but I do know you won’t get suspended for posting it here.

They are well known for this when a post takes off, particularly if someone posts news to a forum and they pick it up afterwards. There were lots of complaints about that in the feedback forum.

So THEY moved it and then banned you.

Wow!
Technically they allowed the topic, moved the topic and in a later post of mine, accused me of violating their forum rules although I mentioned nothing about religion or politics in the post cited. It was about capitalism, socialism, and human nature, although I suspect the trigger was when I mentioned human nature, said some people want a king… ban halmmer, where if they objected, a warning would have sufficed. In my view this is over the top.

In the past because of the group there I have rapport with, I usually stick to vanilla topics, but I think I’ve had it because it’s not worth the aggravation. That’s how I’m feeling at the moment. One of my primary interests the gaming forum is deadish. The community forum, movies, tv, garden, is ok, but it’s a vanilla forum, where nothing of consequence except maybe your health can be discussed. I started a topic AI about how it effects us, especially when run by capitalists, and it had a high level of interest,

So the bottom line is many/most topics of consequence can only be talked about only in an isolated, cryptic fashion and leave out causal factors if they involve religion or politics, even when you don’t violate their rules.

The wife and I are leaving on Monday for a South France river cruise, that ends on a train ride into the Swiss Alps so I’ll have time to forget about MRs. I’ll post in the vacation thread. 🙂

That sounds like fun - the trip, not MR.
