Interesting question, will have to check some word list stats before making an educated guess. As for an uneducated guess: Five letters is probably the sweet spot.

What I do know is that the swedish clone of Wordle I am playing has words with five letters Monday-Friday and words with six letters Saturday-Sunday.

Switching to six slots is a bit of a hassle mentally, but usually easier to solve anyway thanks to the extra slot.

Five slots on the other hand feels a bit more challenging (or even unfair) compared to Wordle. Too many words with similar patterns… My results on Wordle and the swedish clone both look like bell curves, with the expected number of guesses slightly lower for Wordle (!).

I have that complaint sometimes even about 5-lost Wordle in English! Especially if I've made a poor choice in the early going, on a day when the word happens to be one of those with a lot of "cousins."

This was a stinker!!! I had the worst time with it, fumbling and fumbling....took a break, refreshed my coffee, tried again, experiments with possibilities on paper, still was getting nowhere fast. Took another coupe of minutes to refresh my coffee again and this time an idea occurred to me, so I wrote that word down, looked at it, thought, "well, worth a try -- I'll either be right and successful, or I'll lose this game altogether!" Whew, my wild guess turned out to be right after all.....

Edit: Not surprising we all struggled. This is a word I read, but never hear used. Should be a name for words like that.
