while its true that a lot of the trump base, as a reason for voting for him is that "he's such a fabulously wealthy good businessman and that's what america needs" kind of words, this USD 750 in taxes is a matter that only interests d people since it proves what we already suspected.
as far as 2020 november 3, its a non issue.
the point being that the trump base KNOWS that trump is a jerk and fake and charlatan. they know this!
but they are anti-intellectual to a core, first and foremost.
they are contrarian voters.
in 2024 the r party now already knows they need to run another contrarian outsider to stir up their fringy supporters.
the r party is dead in the water being able to run on issues ever again,

Yep. True conservatives will have to decide whether they want to try to rescue the name of the Republican Party, or just try to establish a party with a coherent platform that can appeal to more people. They know they must reach out to those who used to be called Reagan Democrats, equivalent of which today though would include more people of color, fa and so look more like today's often pretty diverse suburbs.

Lots of conservative farmers and businessmen are far more interested in the fiscal side of politics than the social issues. Their kids are educated in cities, end up working in cities or tech hubs near cities. They're about jobs, housing, health care, transportation... and college loan forgiveness because they know damn well otherwise their several generations are going to be stuck in a stagnant economy.

The whole hard line cultural war aspect of the so-called Republican Party of the 90s forward is kinda crashing and burning from within at this point.

Maybe the right wing social mantras are still there but for more of the young today they are window dressing, just another way of saying yo just because I need an apartment I can afford and I'm gettin' ticked off there aren't any doesn't mean I'm a fricken socialist.
But it comes out as hey if i worked in a pharmacy no way would i sell you birth control pills because I have a right to expect some respect for my religious scruples. Dirty little secret: he doesn't work in a pharmacy and could not care less about birth control pills as long as when his wife says to pick them up for her, it's not a hassle to do it.

OK then. We get that. It's like saving face, more or less.

But this GOP has its head in its elbow and can't count and doesn't understand how to extricate itself from the totally absurd position that a) they pitch red meat to a base that is now looking for jobs, health care, infrastructure... and b) they themselves never cared if Roe v Wade got rolled back or not, what matters is whether their high dollar donors are going to finance their re-election so they can pitch red meat to ... oh, wait.

The far right influence on the GOP has led to extraordinary projection of themselves as victims in need of all these religious freedom "restoration" measures, arguing that they just want to be left alone to practice their faith as the 1A guarantees them... meanwhile essentially insisting that those of other views may not be left alone to their views and so must accept right wing pressures against women's autonomy and discrimination against LBGTQ Americans. Meanwhile K street says fuck that, where is the deregulation and the tax cut.

This stuff doesn't hang together. It's why the GOP doesn't even have a platform in 2020, just put on a show of allegiance to their nominal leader Trump at their convention. Well there's a hefty chunk of the GOP that is chafing at the bit: they know they're screwed after Trump has left the scene. They have burned down their own house by kowtowing to the arsonists among them, allowing primaries of their moderates and now losing ground to Dems in general elections every two years... and when Trump is gone, what is left to keep those arsonists' votes in line for a presidential election year? Another strong man? Plenty conservative Republicans are plenty uneasy about that prospect.

I cannot imagine that actually living in Saudi Arabia would appeal much to Mr Trump.

Any port in a storm though?

In a pinch, Trump probably figures Saudi Arabia owes him one.

Regarding the reckless Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Sultan, Trump bragged on having "saved his ass" after KSA operatives in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul had slaughtered Jamal Khashoggi and the US Congress was talking about blocking further arms sales to the Saudis.

Oh, and of course, the ol' loudmouth without a "party affiliation" spin ...

These guys are nothing if not total hypocrites, they'll defend Trump taking children away from their parents, or his having 5 children from 3 different wives after cheating on all of them, but not admit to their own party affiliation. That's how taboo saying "I'm a Republican" has become.

Biden-Harris team put up their tax returns today on Biden's website.

The Biden campaign posted the returns on its website Tuesday afternoon. The returns show that Joe and Jill Biden had an adjusted gross income of $985,233 in 2019 and paid a total of $299,346 in federal income taxes that year. Harris and her husband, attorney Doug Emhoff, had an adjusted gross income of $3,095,590 and paid $1,185,628 in federal income taxes in 2019, according to their tax returns.

Guess Trump might figure they're almost as clueless a bunch of "suckers and losers" as the Americans who serve in the US military. Anyway makes his $750 tax shell-out for a couple ears running look worse than cheap to me.

But if I'd chosen to read Fox News report of the Biden-Harris tax returns disclosure, I might have come away with a different impression. They didn't mention amount of tax paid, just focused on how much income Biden reported.

Good for Joe. I'm guessing Chris Wallace will have a team combing through them today and may try to hit Biden with some questions on it tonight but would be surprised if he didn't prep himself for that as well.

Don't forget, folks, this isn't the first time Trump has been accused of not paying taxes. I expect him to fall back on his previous defense:

...Hillary Clinton launched a fiery attack on the Republican presidential nominee for breaking a four-decade tradition of White House aspirants releasing their federal income tax returns.

“The only years that anybody’s ever seen were a couple of years when he had to turn them over to state authorities when he was trying to get a casino license, and they showed he didn’t pay any federal income tax,” Clinton said.

Trump quickly retorted: “That makes me smart.”
