In prep for Season 2 (2025) just watched The Night Manager (2016) season 1- one of the finest espionage series I’ve watched.

On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Tuesday, Colbert said he was surprised by a statement from CBS denying that its lawyers told him he couldn’t show an interview with Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico — which the host said had happened the night before
He then took a copy of the network statement, wrapped it in a dog poop bag, the way as any dog owner does, 😅and tossed it away.

His & Hers (Netflix Limited series 2026)- Wow, great murder mystery police drama! One messed up scenario, and you’ll be guessing up to the end even after you think you know. :)

Industrial Light and Magic documentary, started it last night, 2 episodes in, the Star Wars episodes. I had realized that this movie, had been a challenge to make, I just did not realize what a challenge. Hollywood in the days before CGI, had no capability to create such a visual presentation using practical effects. George Lucas hired a bunch of people into special effects outside the Disney realm and tasked them to create the means, which meant taking old Vista Vision movie camera equipment and building the motion capture camera computerized system used to film spaceship models flying though space, from scratch. Cost over runs, a grumpy studio, they came down to the wire.

I finished watching a few days ago. It was an interesting look at the origin of ILM and the transition from traditional FX to digital.

I decided to pick up with S2 of Andor last week. But ANDOR was more like ANDNOT, since I didn't remember much about S1, which I had watched at least a couple years ago. (Bad Boolean joke, I know. I once had a teacher who pronounced the word "bool lean.") I'm almost done with the first season. It's weird how I recall many scenes, but not how they fit together.

Just a couple weeks ago I rewatched the whole series from start to finish again.

This happens to us all the time with shows now, they often take several years in between seasons and it's easy to forget. Sometimes we just don't have enough interest to pick it back up again.

Which particularly sucks with these shows that have complex arcs and where episodes don’t stand alone. Even for shows with seasons that occur at regular intervals, they have 8 or 10 episodes a season then expect us, in season 5, to remember some character who appeared once or twice in season 1.

TBH, I was a year late getting to S2, but I agree. In this case, though, I remembered liking the first season so much that I was happy to watch it again.

At first glance, you’d think that CGI and other digital effects would speed things up, but it’s the opposite. They add a lot of time and expense to production and post-production, so some TV series take much longer to create.

Still, I wish they’d do more VFX for the exterior scenes on some of the planets. The clouds and skies all look the same, apart from an extra moon or sun.

I think Andor is one of the best Star Wars spinoffs I’ve seen. I expected Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (the one with the kids) to be as bad as most of the others, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. A second season is reportedly under consideration.

Andor is a great show, period. You could extract star wars from it entirely and it would still work (though you’d have to supply a series finale that ties it together instead of relying on Rogue One.

Speaking of which, in a few weeks there is a new cut of Rogue One coming: Rogue One: The Andor Cut. May 25, i believe. Fan made (but sanctioned?). Little bit of a preview here:

You must be old. 😉 My short term memory is shot. Typically when a new season appears, I rewatch the previous season to get up to speed. Now the interesting thing might be that when I rewatch old episodes, I recognize events as they happen, which means the memory is there, I just have diminished recall ability.

Andor is monumental on the worthy end of the Star Wars franchise.

When the time between seasons is so long, I wish they would release a catchup episode with E1. Have it be as long as needed to cover all the salient points.

Star Wars watch protocol:
E1: ?
E2: Andor
E3: Rogue One
E4: A New Hope
E5: The Empire Strikes Back
E6: Return of Jedi

I’d say usually there is some kind of a recap, but it’s not enough for me. 😐
