What are you doing today?

Don't have to give the exact city, but from what area to what area? Moving is always exciting and anxiety-driven because it's a fresh start, but a lot of unknowns. Congrats!

Oh, it's DTO (Downtown Orlando), really more like UTO (Uptown), but it's all the same area, north of 408, east of I-4, it's urban, and rural, it's perfect, totally our vibe, minutes from the city, or a lake, or a brewery, super walkable, very bikeable (and just minutes from the parks, but far enough north where its' not touristy).

DTO has a great music too, lots of local events, Kia Center < 2 miles aways, Tampa much closer, killer music/vinyl store 6-7 blocks away and another about 10 minutes on a bike.

Record Store Day weekend after next, was curious about who in the area was listed:

A ton! Bynx is very cool, scored a beer, some coffee and some records trip before last, daughter chatted up the staff, they said they might need help!

W know Orlando pretty well, we go a lot, 2 hours from here so not a major move (already have movers scheduled for May 2nd, we'll be running two places for a month or two, so leaving some stuff here).

Finishing up last day of work before the trip. Mostly packed. Just need to pack up the backpack I'm using as a day bag, and then shove that into the carry-on.

Then 3 weeks in Tokyo and Hiroshima. Fingers crossed the local airport stays like it has the last couple weeks.

The weather isn’t so bad, other than the humidity being higher than I’m used to. I packed for slightly cooler temperatures, which means a couple items of clothing I brought are just going to stay in the luggage the whole time.

The real thing I’m getting used to is the amount of walking/standing and the fact that I am still getting my train legs a week into the trip. Glad we didn’t pack things tight and so we have some chances to recover or just wander parks. Ueno was nice, having just missed the rush for peak bloom.

Upside is that eating like the locals has made my arthritis absurdly easy to control. Joints haven’t been this good in weeks.

Spent the day at the doctor, seeing three eye doctors, finishing up on the surgery follow-ups and collecting data for the research study.

But now i am getting another vitrectomy, this time the left eye. vitreous detached last month, and even the retina surgeon was shocked by the size of the giant floater, so the surgery will take care of that and reinforce the retina attachment if necessary.

if it goes anything like the same procedure on the other eye, this is great news. when the first vitreous detached in 2022, it was only a matter of time before the next one. This surgery will cause me about 48 hours of discomfort, a week of not being able to use the eye for anything, and then after two weeks I should be able to see better than I ever could before.

When I had my first detachment more than 20 years ago, my eye was essentially filled with blood. In the video taken through the surgeon’s magnifier, I could see the clot pulled out by the suction tool. It was quite cool.

First international trip wouldn't be complete without a ride on a functioning high speed train network. Left Tokyo and arrived in Hiroshima yesterday. Even paying for the green car, the seats were just a hair short. Still better than an economy plane ticket though.

Today I want to see the city center, as there's parks and memorials for the bomb dropping, and a replica of Hiroshima Castle. Later in the week, Miyajima as a day trip.

I'm getting more proficient at building apps, my latest is one that allows you to point your phone at the TV (or computer) screen and it will read movie titles then give you the review score in real time, either one you choose or by reading all on the screen. I doubt there's any real demand for this but for me it's gold because I can sit there for 20 minutes sometimes looking up reviews for movies in all the different apps. Peacock and Plex are the only ones that show reviews.

This one is a pretty huge build, I've already got a couple of days into it and it shows promise but there are a lot of details to iron out.

Although Kyoto didn't have a nuclear bomb dropped on it, it was bombed by conventional weapons. Almost every tour, they mentioned that, and boy, did I want to slink away in embarrassment.

My wife will want it. If you can have it “Shazam” a movie or TV show and have it pull up the IMDB page, that would be huge.

Okay, I'll let you know how it goes, still have quite a bit of work to do. My assumption is most won't care but I'll add it to TestFlight so I can invite friends and family to use it.
