What Movie Are You Watching?

Frackham Hall (2025)- Downton Abbey spoof, worth some chuckles. You might recognize the 2 actors. on the right :)
Damion Lewis, Tom Felton

Companion (2025)- Wow, what a good AI movie. Do not watch any trailers for this, go in blind, you will be surprised. 🥰

Best Picture Nominees
  • Bugonia"
  • "F1"
  • "Frankenstein"
  • "Hamnet"
  • "Marty Supreme"
  • "One Battle After Another"
  • "The Secret Agent"
  • "Sentimental Value"
  • "Sinners"
  • "Train Dreams"
Yesterday I’d seen just one of these movies, Sinners which I liked. After its win, we watched One Battle After Another, centered on members of a “terrorist” group in modern America fighting the system, but mostly in the aftermath of a series of events. I found the story to be interesting, a reflection of today’s America, with some intriguing elements, but overall it seemed to drag and I was not really drawn in

Usually, if I’m not blown away by a Best Picture, it makes me wonder what wrong with movies these days. I mean it’s all subjective isn’t it? It also seems like DeCaprio has lost his edge, or maybe that was a good job of portraying a character? It’s interesting he is prominently displayed on most of the movie posters, but I think the other actors who outshined him.

Mercy 2026 (Prime)
Crime drama with Chris Pratt as a police officer accused of killing his wife and being tried in The Mercy Court by an AI judge with 90 min to prove his innocence. Surprisingly good. I would say that 90 min is bull even if the premise of this court is that the evidence is pretty much slam dunk. 🤔

F1 (2025)- Brad Pitt is not an actor I like, i put him in the George Clooney category, a pretty face, but nothing that ever grabbed me, but I’m always ready to give most actors another chance. F1 should be an adrenaline rush, but I just was not feeling it, did not finish cause I really did not care about Sonny Hayes and I disliked the music. Ford vs Ferrari was a much better story. Yet note, this movie got high marks at Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe it’s me. 🤔

Apex (2026)- Survival thriller. Charlize Theron, it was ok, nothing over the top, emphasis on realistic climbing, and a very bad person in the wilds.

Rewatched the original Carrie and I had this observation....

How the hell did they get away with so much nudity of high school girls in the 70's and 80's? The actresses are usually older than the parts they are playing and I guess you could argue they are 18-year-old seniors but that's not even addressed at all. And it's not just blurred in the background. There's a lot of lingering shots of just body parts. It's just gratuitous.
