WWDC 2025

There seems to be a prominent display of the “Metal” logo on wwdc marketing and I really hope that’s a sign of some significant improvements to it. Maybe Metal 4?

Where are you seeing that? I looked a week ago for Metal-related hints and didn’t see much.

I may have over-egged the pudding! The group labs mention Metal and gaming and there is this advert on twitter.

It seems that Metal will feature prominently along with owls and pigs.

Right on. I noticed the group sessions (also an ML session, which should have some Metal-related stuff). My emoji-fu isn’t good enough to figure that ad out, but I’m hopeful since Metal is on there. Maybe the flying pig means that our low probability wishes for MacOS will come true 🙂

It may seem crazy, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Apple announces at WWDC more than ever as a diversion from all the political and societal turmoil. I know that won’t last, but it’ll be a welcome break nonetheless.

Same here, for the same reason. It'll be a nice diversion. I'm thinking about an iPhone 17 Air. Would be nice if that's covered in the presentation.

That's really sad. I met Bill Atkinson through using his PhotoCard app a dozen years ago.

At the time I was creating photo post cards using his app and my photographs. Which I sent to friends and relatives. Apparently he took notice of my photos and reached out to me to visit him at his home and studio not far from where I lived at the time. Turns out he was quite a photographer after showing me his work and home studio. And was a super nice guy.

Gosh, that's so sad. Two of his software creations, MacPaint and HyperCard, were groundbreaking, and he did so much more too. I heard him speak at least once – he did an excellent job explaining things and seemed like a great guy.

Incidentally, although I don't know this for sure, I suspect Bill Atkinson died from pancreatic adenocarcinoma, which is the most common. It is rarely discovered early enough to be cured. Steve Jobs had a pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer, which has a better prognosis. He may have survived had he not delayed therapy.
