Apple Intelligence impressions?

I haven’t used Apple Intelligence so it’s been interesting to see people’s impressions. Some of the examples I’ve seen lately are a little worrying. this one which demonstrates object clean up is awful. It’s hard to believe it’s actually using AI.

They try and remove the van and it ends up also including the cockpit of the airplane. I think many non-ai tools we’ve had for years would do a similar job. I hope this improves.

This one also. Half a spectacle hanging in mid-air.

you can circle stuff that it leaves behind and it will remove it. I’ve been playing around with it. It’s…ok.

I haven’t tried it personally, but my understanding is that Google’s Pixel does a very good job of this kind of thing. Its cloud based I believe.

Before and after (my test). Seems pretty good.

Interestingly, when I try to use Apple Intelligence writing tools, mail summarization, etc., i get messages that it’s “unavailable at this time. try again later.”

Not sure what’s up with that.

Hmm. Curioser and curioser. With “apple intelligence” turned off in settings, the clean up tool still works, even though all the text-based A.I. stuff goes away.

None of the text-based stuff (summarization, writing tools, etc.) work for me, no matter how i set the switch right now - ah! “support for apple intelligence models on device is downloading.”

A better error alert box next time, please, Apple!

Also, why’s it taking so long? I’ve had 18.1 beta 3 for hours.

@Cmaier, were these results shown from one press of the clean up button, or did it require multiple attempts?

the clean up button doesn’t do anything just by pressing it. Once you press it, you have to tell it what you want to remove - you can do that in one of three ways. Certain areas of the photo will be highlighted as suggestions. You can just tap those. Otherwise you can scribble over something or circle it.

So, depending on the example, I might have circled things once or twice, or tapped something and then scribbled over leftover parts.

Thanks.

Apparently in 18.1 beta 3 you only have to set Siri language to US; device language can be whatever you’d like.
that is, if all works right. My ipad still claims to be downloading the models, and based on storage space used it hasn’t moved an inch in nearly 10 hours. Also finding some other weird issues (some of which i’ve seen reported elsewhere), like “find my” sharing flipping itself off and then back on, etc.

Wouldn’t recommend 18.1 beta 3 on a device you need to work properly.
