iOS 18.1 and Apple Intelligence

my blind wife has gotten some use out of it to identify things. siri somewhat works better, right now I am using the free version of grammerly to fix my posts that's the real feature I need. I swear homekit has gotten worse. If you run a scene by clicking on it it works. by voice maybe or somewhat.
I have a room named “bird room.” If I say “turn on the lights in the bird room,” siri absolutely insists I mean “bedroom.” Doesn’t matter how slowly or clearly I say it.

(And, yes, the bird room houses a bird)

Siri gets it right it just does not run or it runs completely. like some of the lights will turn on but not all of them. where I can I now use alexa for running routines. it is more reliable.

if that’s the case, you might want to see what is being assigned as your Homekit home hub. In my house we have many homekit devices, and it all works fine as long as (1) the mesh network is working right. Every once in awhile i have to reboot it or things start acting strange. I really wish Apple still made Airports. (2) The home hub is set to something with a hardwired internet connection (an Apple TV) and not to some random homepod mini operating on wifi in some remote corner of the house.

Our homekit devices include two door locks, a garage door opener, two thermostats, at least 15 in-wall light switches, a washing machine, several presence sensors, 9 ring cameras, and various other devices I’m sure I’m forgetting (including hoobs hubs, etc. for interfacing some of the non-native homekit devices). Pretty much always works, including some complicated automations.

You need to rename it "Room of the Bird".

Or "Polly wants a light". :ROFLMAO:

My college roommate had a gray parrot he kept in our apartment. His parents also had a bird room.

It was a really cool bird and liked me for the most part until one night I was dragging him into his room (he was a wee bit inebriated) and I bumped into the cage which knocked the bird off his perch. He didn't like me much after that. LOL

I use it for genmoji fairly regularly. I don’t use much else.

I’d go with “Vogelzimmer,” but Siri doesn’t do great with multiple languages

I hope you pronounce it as "fo:gltsima" (I don't know how to do IPA here, and my phonetics are a bit rusty anyway).
But I can see how Siri could be confused by the correct pronunciation.

Just don't call it "Vögelzimmer", because "vögeln" has a totally different meaning...

Meine Oma hat mir gesagt, dass mein deutscher Akzent ein bisschen süß ist, aber ich spreche auf jeden Fall gut genug Deutsch für Siri.

Siri is pretty bad with languages. I can get a text in French, and studio will now read it in French, but won't let me respond. On the other hand, my spelling in Hebrew is so bad that three only way I can respond to a text is by using dictation, where it does a great job. YMMV

Will Apple AI allow you to use AirPod Pro in and translate in real time? Would be a step closer to the universal translator from Star Trek, or maybe we all have to give up and learn Esperanto.

That sounds amazing actually. I hope that’s where we land with it.

I discovered that the level of relevance somebody has in my life is proportionate to my ability to make a picture of them in Image Playground. I have some serious contacts cleanup I need to do. :ROFLMAO:

A good summary of the pros and cons of Apple Intelligence integration with chatGPT. From macstories.net Frederico Viticci.

I updated a new M4 iPad from 17.something to 18.2 and now the app search doesn’t work. I type something in and nothing. Apple Intelligence, my ass.

It is lightening fast on giving me no results. I’ll give it that.

In my experience, it depends how they were raised (and, by default if they are jerks or not.).

my bird is a jackass. 35 years old, and he’s an utter dick.
It's primarily the loudness I wouldn't be able to tolerate. I've been to homes in which all efforts to silence the beast have been abandoned. So, if you wanna hang there, you'll be listening to non-stop squawks, sometimes at unsafe decibels. Insane way to live.

I married into the bird. My wife already had him for a long time before we met. He tolerated me at first, but now he tries to crush my fingers any chance he gets.
