Electric Vehicles: General topics

Given that last year’s model had half the lease payment, I am guessing it’s a bug, something that is intended to penalize people who don’t buy off-the-lot, or a temporary thing.

Anyway, if they’re serious, I’ll lease a Macan instead.
Did that included the $8500 incentive? They gave it to me on my lease and it was the main reason I decided to do it.

no, but i doubt it would make much difference, because i played around with trade-in and down payment amounts +/- 10k and it made little difference -this is just from their online “payment calculator.” Could be they give me different numbers in person, of course. (Actually, taking into account the trade-in/down payment, the total lease payments over 3 years would exceed the cash purchase price by quite a bit).

Look into some (lease) broker services, we got $23.5K off ours, and even with the broker and transport costs from MD to FL, it was still $22K off, and we had like maybe 30 minutes of total time on our part too (with almost no dealer interaction). We’re paying right at $800/mo (including tax) with zero down (we did do 7 MSPs which we get back), with a $99K MSRP.

my wife is going in tomorrow to buy an i4. i told her to ask the salesperson what’s up with the lease situation on the ix, and to imply that if they knock that shit off they’ll get two sales.

She'll love it, I've had great experiences with it so far. When it comes to build quality and the intuitive iDrive system there is simply no comparison.

We’re keeping her X3 for my daughter (if she gets off her butt and starts the process of getting her license), otherwise the i4 would be a little small for my wife given all the crap she keeps in her car at all times. Other than that, it’s a great car. I test drove it myself and loved it, other than that the size.

Yeah man it's sort of odd because it's a bigger footprint in my garage lengthwise but not as roomy as the Tesla inside but I've adjusted pretty well. Also got weathertech floor liners because I'm always out running around in the dirt for photography stuff.

My wife still has the 2018 X1 and we love that, too. Great for road trips and still has quite a bit of room for our needs.

just realized i’m going to have to share the charger now. Grrr… I hate the car shuffle. I guess we’ll have to arrange some sort of schedule. Hopefully one of my tesla-to-everyone-else adapters works for her.

Is it a dedicated Tesla charger? I was able to plug the new BMW charging cable right into my existing NEMA 14-50 outlet with no modifications necessary, added bonus that the charging port is now closest to the wall.

yeah, i have a tesla 80A charger 4 feet from my tesla’s charge port. Unfortunately the BMWs put their charge ports on the wrong side. :-) I bet she won’t re-coil the cable when she puts it back, either.

Want me to send them a strongly worded letter?

When I was getting ready to buy the Ariya, I went and stripped out my twenty-year-old Focus. It had become a serious crap magnet. I found stuff from the time we drove through Death Valley in '07. I have been very deliberate about not crapping up the new car – made sure there were gloves in the glovebox. And, of course, I had to have the riding crop.

Welp, my wife is taking the night to think on it, but she’s probably buying the i4 in the next day or two (red). I had her ask what is going on with the crazy lease rate for the ix 2026, and apparently it was a bug on their calculator. She got numbers that work real well for me, especially because my house will be paid off in the next month and a half, and the car iX won’t arrive until May. So I’ll probably order a 2026 iX xdrive60 (I don’t need the extra speed of the m70, certainly not with that big a hit in driving range).

Probably this build: https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-own.html#/studio/fjpy6ta6/summary

Sigh. On further reflection it looks like I’ll give up 20 miles range (360->340) and get the M-Sport version of the xdrive60. Primarily because the seats are apparently much more comfortable, and that’s the only way to get them. That jacks the wheels up from 20 to 21”, which is presumably the cause of the loss of range. But since the actual range seems to be higher than the spec (the opposite of Tesla), I can live with it.

Placing an order tomorrow when my wife goes in to purchase her i4 (hers should be off-the-lot).

Not sure if it's the life of the car or what but on paper the Tesla had somewhere around 50 miles more than the i4 and so far I'm getting way more range, I mean it's really a noticeable difference and I've lowered my charging times as a result.

tesla just makes up numbers.

One nice thing about a lease is I can just charge to 100% most days. So “every day” I’ll get at least 340 miles vs. the 170 miles I get with my Model S in reality. (A full charge of the model S gets me a reported 240, which is probably more realistically 215 or something. When I bought it they advertised it as 300, but they kept tinkering with their in-car reporting and it quickly changed to reporting 285 or so.)

Yeah, that's a solid build, basically the same as our iX50, especially if you add the M-sport option like you mentioned in a subsequent post.

The sport option (now the M-sport) is much better looking, the intake duct/side trim, the smoked lighting, bigger calipers, and the 21" wheel/tire setup is a terrific compromise for looks, handing, sidewall/comfort and range.

We got the optional variant 21" wheels which I love (they're darker and without the polished trim ring). Oh, looks like there's a new 21" wheel standard with the M-Sport and now the old 21" are somehow linked to the Exec Package if selected? Hahaha, weird :D

We are always over the stated range in the iX.

This was from a very efficient (settings + my driving + average speed of ~65 or less) up to an office ( do a couple of time a month onsite), note the SoC and the remaining range :)

Apparently I was in the Swiss Alps ... :ROFLMAO:

Oh, and another CarPlay app that supports both displays, Waze!

Going to the dealer this afternoon - my wife will buy her i4 off-the-lot, and I’ll put down a deposit on my iX. I found out that you can actually finally get a factory trailer hitch (important since you can’t really add one on a leased vehicle), but that’s only for production starting in July. So I may ask for that and have to wait an extra couple of months (which is fine by me). We have a hitch on our x3 that my wife uses for a bike rack all the time. My kid might take the x3 to college in the third year of our lease, so we’d be without a hitch for a year if I don’t get one factory installed.
