Electric Vehicles: General topics

they’ll probably start charging tolls just on EV cars.
That may sound like a joke, but have you heard the demands that EVs pay some extra fee since they don't "subsidize the transportation with gas taxes"?

I'd love to see Elon do a Rumpelstiltskin for that...

Congrats, looks like a nice car.

Way nicer than it should be for a base model. And the technology is incredible. It does have BlueCruise which is Ford’s HF driving. I drive one a couple times a week and had to go to Phoenix one time. The HF worked great on the 101 Loop.

It handled the stop/start every bit as good as a person. It only works on certain “mapped” highways but that’s fine.

I know the purists will says “It’s not a Mustang” and that’s fine. It’s just a name.

I personally like Ford, they seem to have been up with the latest tech from the start. My wife isn't a big fan or I would likely have purchased one.

friend of mine is responsible for their software stack, last i checked. Worked with me at AMD, Sun and Exponential. Love that guy, but he moved to michigan. His wife graduated law school and was the one who told me to become a lawyer and go to SCU at night.

Last time he came to town we played foosball on my tornado table, and between us we broke 3 men in one game. (We spent a lot of time playing foosball late at night while waiting for chip builds to finish).

Anyway, Ford is good.

Mostly. I might have considered a Mach-E – except, that huge screen just dangling off the dash looks ugly. That is its biggest drawback, too much for me to tolerate. I guess if you are used to a Tesla, it does not seem that bad.

you get used to it, i imagine. Mostly i judge a car based on whether it works, and whether it keeps working without constant trips to the service shop.

I am not a Mustang purist, as I own a 1999 35th anniversary edition. IMO the 80-90-early 00 were a bad look. The Mach-E has grown on me, and I would consider it for the next purchase. Congrats!

I think they should have called it the Maverick and found a different name for the mini truck. The Maverick was a contemporary of the Mustang and keeps with the horse themed naming.

And it will flat spank any ICE version. Even the base model. :)

Ford actually had a mini-truck. I have one sitting in the driveway: Ranger. And, in fact, Ford made a Ranger EV for a short time, about a quarter century ago.

I occaisionally smoke bumper-glue. The other day, a guy was right on me so I gradually dropped to 25 in a 45 – comparable to his proper following distance – then jumped back up to 45 like a slienced shot. The responsiveness of an EV is impressive – my car holds cruise-contol speed far better than any ICE I have ever driven.

EV seems inherently faster by every measure, I know when I first got my Tesla I was blown away at how responsive it was, like being strapped to a jet engine with no lag.

I notice that with my hybrid. Long ago I used to autocross. I don't know if that's done anymore. But if it is, I think my ride would be a worthy competitor (both in power and handling).

Auto-X is still a thing, though some tracks are wishy-washy on EV's being allowed.
