Ya'll see the holiday update details?

meanwhile i got in my car this morning and the center console was black and i had to reboot everything. and step on the pedal for 30 seconds to restart the car (and the “center console unavailable” message was still there last time i checked, but everything else seems to work).

Make shit work before adding shit.

Looks like it's mostly geared to truck but neat bells and whistles.

sirius/xm for 3 and Y is nice, I guess. Though, tbh, i didn’t know those cars didn’t support that. (and if they supported carplay, we wouldn’t have to beg for these scraps, and could just use the sirius app on our phones)

I can't get either of them to work, even after I enter my subscription info it appears to log me in and then when I search for something it tries to ubiquitously search across all platforms and doesn't work with any of them as a result.

I just want to listen to specific albums when I drive but cannot, so like everything else I revert back to my phone in a holder and broadcast it through bluetooth. They just make everything so overly complex for simple tasks.

I like the YT Music interface more than Apple Music in my car.

Ehh, there only a few thing explicitly for the CT. Most everything is for all the vehicles (except @Cmaier's car) . I am curious how well the rear cross traffic alert will work.

They don't have the antenna. This is streaming SXM.

Have you tried searching within the app? It will bring up results across all the apps and then not work when I try to play the album.

I tend to search inside of the specific app (so in this case YT Music). While I think the aggregation of sources in the "main search" is cool I don't like having to hunt for which service I actually want it to play from.

EDIT: It would be cool to be able to remove services from the search result without turning them off altogether.

EDIT 2: It seems to work for me, maybe I need to mess with trying to play an album instead of a specific song.

That is what I mean though, I open said app, then search, then it runs a ubiquitous search across all of my subscribed apps instead of just within the app. I must be doing something wrong but it's useless to me this way.

Yeah it is weird I did a search for GNX and it found it and played it no problems. I am going to have to get back to you about it with other albums.

figured out how to solve this issue. The message never went away even though everything else seemed to work. Rebooting both computers did nothing. Turns out the trick was to go to the menus and set the tire size down to 19” - this causes a lengthy set of reboots. Then set it back to 21”. When it was done, my center screen was black and I had to reboot that, but in the end the message is gone.

This is apparently a known issue since 2019; when the car goes into deep sleep (I guess I didn’t drive it in 5 days because of the holiday), sometimes when it comes out of sleep there is some sort of race between the two computers and everything gets screwed up. Maybe they’ll fix it by 2029.

So simple, when you put it like that.

Did you ever do the MCU2 upgrade?

Did you ever do the MCU2 upgrade?
Nope. By the time it was offered to me, invested two grand seemed dumb. (I’d need the Sirius widget too). My car does t have any sensors or cameras, so a lot of the reason to upgrade isn’t there anyway. I have had various things upgraded under warranty - the flash, the cellular module, and the MCU was replaced (but not with 2).

It sounded scammy, there aren't nearly as many out there as they've purported.

Tesla Cybertuck Line Workers Told To Stay Home: ‘No Need To Report To Work’

It looks like there’s a demand problem for the electric pickup that allegedly had millions of reservations before going on sale.

The Tesla Cybertruck is arguably the most controversial new vehicle on the market–five years after it was initially shown to the public in prototype form. Some love it, others hate it, but one thing is clear: you’ll be noticed on the road if you happen to be inside a Cybertruck.

It’s an attention-grabbing machine, and its sales success has so far been undeniable. It managed to climb to the top of the best-selling electric pickups chart in the second quarter in the United States, surpassing the Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning, both of which have been on sale for longer.

But the initial boost seems to be drying out. Yesterday, workers at Tesla’s Austin factory, which assembles the Cybertruck, were told to stay home for the next three days, according to a memo seen by Business Insider. "On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week (Dec. 3-5), you do not need to report to work," the memo said.

Read an article yesterday that because of the little ledge under the headlights, if you drive around in moderate snowfall conditions, snow accumulates and blocks the headlights. While you are driving. Hilarious.

Yeah there probably will end up being a recall for this, assuming owners have gone to NHTSA about it already.

Elno is now going to get out of battery electric cars and switch to hydrogen, which he once called "stupid."

And honestly, it is. BEVs have the advantage of not having to visit a fueling station every few days; electricity is very easy to ship long distances; hydrogen is notoriously difficult to contain; currently, the common commercial hydrogen production method produces large amounts of carbon dioxide; and the water vapor that would be emitted by millions of hydrogen cars is a powerful greenhouse gas that would bollix the climate just as much as CO2 does, possibly worsely.

Good BEVs, especially bearing the imminent solid state battery tech, are just the better choice for 99% of use cases. The only place for hydrogen might be as a direct range-extender for BEVs on long trips.
