Very odd. My 16 Pro randomly restarts about once or twice a day ever since I got it. It is using 18.1.1, still does it ever since 18.1 promised to fix it.

The restart shows no Apple logo too. Some kind of kernel panic probably?

is it a quick restart? like a springboard crash?

It has come in two forms:

Formerly, quicker. Like freezes with a circular progress bar and then back at Lock Screen.

But more recently I have seen a longer one with an all black waiting display (could be off entirely too with OLED).

I think this only happens in Tennessee.

Seriously, though, I haven’t seen any issues with mine, but I’ve been on betas for quite awhile. My wife is on the normal releases with her 16 Pro, and hasn’t seen anything like this. So it’s possible it’s a hardware issue or related to something specific about your configuration.

I would say if this does not appear to be a widespread problem that a lot of people are experiencing, get it swapped for a stable one.

I think it is software, would be shocked if it were hardware related, but yeah if it continues and new updates don’t fix it I will.

Yeah Cliff I’ve had zero issues with it otherwise. Great phone.

Better better life is huge. More stable performance now that heat is reduced from the display/battery/SoC (and new thermal design). My IP13 Pro was at the point where even with a new battery it was just running it down too fast especially over with a bit more than normal use.

Gearing up to be my favorite iPhone, replacing the XS in a relative measure in spite of the size (I would like to have it just a bit smaller, like 5.9-6.1 inch display same bezel configurations). Really my only hardware gripe. I could accept the rounded boxy design, its 80% as good as the curved but probably benefits Apple in design overhead internally, and drop durability.

The modem & RF gain is another thing. The X & XS were tolerable but shoddy in this regard (unrelated but that also shows Apple will be fine with their own modems — the bar is actually quite low in an end user experience test, it’s just very difficult to engineer and requires a lot of manpower. But if they can get 65% as good and similar joules/bit, better or similar power management/idle behavior etc they’re golden)

The 12 was better but still bad, particularly on power. Qualcomm X55.

13 was a big step up with the X60 on power/heat and reception I noticed but still objectively not fantastic and the X60 is kind of just a bare minimum of tolerance, Samsung 5NM probably hurt too.

The new one in this is an X71 or something, not the newest but at satiation I’d say. Speed doesn’t matter in this case beyond supporting something reasonably fast in most cases, but idle power, signal strength and power consumption per bit etc are important.

Anyway yeah it is odd. Gonna give it a month or so before I go in unless I see evidence it’s a defect prior to that.

Could also try a factory reset and then reinstall your stuff. Obviously back up first. Of course won’t help if something about your stuff is the problem.

easier thing to try might be to install the beta. It’s been more solid than artemis’ experience, at least for me.
