Iranian President “missing”

Hmmm... A lot of Iran's terrain is very mountainous/rugged. GPS/GLONASS spoofing?

Glad to see Hamas has declared their "great concern." It won't surprise me if they blame Israel next. Not that it would be technically impossible, but I think assassinating the Iranian President is beyond what even Netanyahu would be prepared to do.

Yes, read something about if anyone survived the bears or wolves may get to them first. But then thought are there no weapons guarding the President?

Latest report says it was "hard landing" and they are in contact with at least one person who was on the chopper.

Even if the president and/or foreign minister died in the crash or its aftermath, there won't be any changes in Iranian policy or actions. The country is run by "supreme leader" Ayatollah Ali Khamenei anyway.

I can see Netanyahu being behind it. And wanting to go to war with Iran, seeing hamas is directed (or at least heavily driven) by Iran. If true, and Iran retaliates in some manner, that’s all Netanyahu would need to get the ball rolling.

Regarding that supposed contact: the news item made no mention about the state of the president, which would have been at the top of anything a "survivor" would have communicated, making this dubious "news".

Regarding conspiracy theories about whodunnit - very unlikely, since it would be a complete waste of time & resources. This guy is an easily replaced puppet of the mullahs - what's the point?

What I don't get is why anyone, let alone a president would go on a state visit across mountains in a aging helicopter?

The point would be giving Iran a reason to attack Israel. With Israel quickly responding.

A good portion of Iran is very mountainous. Regarding the helicopter, I've yet to read a report about its vintage or make/model.

BBC: President Raisi was on board a Bell 212 helicopter, state news agencies said. The model was made in the US and could not have been sold to Iran since the 1979 revolution.

Thanks.

I'm guessing it was deemed air-worthy before the flight. Also guessing it was one of a few helicopters suitably equipped for Iranian presidential travel. Though manufacturing was discontinued 25 years ago, I wouldn't be shocked if there are likely many refurbished and air-worthy similar helicopters available from many different countries.

What would be good knowing, is if it was equipped with an INS or solely used GPS/GLONASS for navigation.

Both the Iranian president and the foreign minister are confirmed dead:

I guess some of the news were issued a bit too quickly, since there was talk of contact with survivors of the crash. Now it seems no one has survived the crash.

Since the news came out late last night, I have been waiting for the accusations of Israeli or US involvement.

Nobody is going to believe anyone in the immediate aftermath.

Probably just a helicopter crash, but even if it was, I doubt Iran will let the opportunity to blame an enemy go to waste.

They are blaming US sanctions for being unable to get helicopter parts. That’s almost as lazy as Republican blame game deflections. Almost.
If it were my decision, I wouldn't let any government VIPs into any aircraft built pre 1979. Even if I had new parts in the hanger.

If I were an Israeli citizen, and knew Iran was complicit in some manner with respect to hamas' October 7th mission against Israel, I'd hope (and demand) that Israel would extract justice from Iran for the 1,000 fellow citizens killed and 200 held hostage. And wouldn't have any issue with Israel being involved in the helicopter crash.

As an observer, I believe Israel is more likely involved than not.

I don't think the age of the helicopter mattered as much as it was also woke and a black lesbian only in the air because of DEI.
