Macrumors still nuking posts without even so much as a word

So it turns out I also got moderated with my post edited and my "insult" was that me screenshotting their laughing emoji reaction to my post and saying "oh good. one of these. easy ignore." According to Steve from MR this, but not the react emoji itself which is still present, violates forum protocol because I'm "telling everyone else to ignore them" even though clearly I am not from the context. So I wrote back:

Interesting ... I figured that was probably the offending sentence. However, I would take issue with that. I was not in fact being insulting. I was responding to their use of the laughing emoji to react to my post, which is designed to be an actual insult and which I note is still attached to my post from said user. Thus, I was stating that I had no intention on continuing to interact with a user who acts like that - I did not say everyone else had to ignore them. If insulting someone using the react system is allowed by moderation but responding to it is not, then you foster a very toxic community environment in which the react system is abused.

I don't expect anything to change, MR is what it is, but it's another reason to post there as infrequently as possible and dip out as soon as you think it's a troll.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My first and only three-day suspension was for reacting to a few articles with the laughing emoji. (Not many people seem to do so, but one can to react to an article itself when viewing it in the forums.)

When I asked the moderator why reacting to an article with a laughing emoji was subject to suspension, he replied I was "harassing the authors."

Wow, I've never heard of that for just the use of an emoji.

Conversely speaking that is the most weaponized/misused emoji on the internet IMO. That said, if they can't handle people using it (even out of context) then they should pull it.

That's my issue. They know what it means and selectively enforce punishment, but if a user complains about its use by a troll, the user is the one with the problem. I get that moderation of a large forum is hard to the point where it's impossible to make everyone happy, but even with that caveat they are pretty bad at it and moderation style definitely helps determine community culture.

The biggest takeaway for me was the way they treated Cmaier, one of their most respected members and they were busting him on stupid little technicalities that most simply wouldn't care about instead of simply reaching out or something to make the peace. They value their micromanaging oppressive rules over everything else. As I stated before, the trick to not getting penalized is to not post ever, it's a very effective technique.
