Out of curiosity, when was that?
I lost any respect in Zuckerberg when he claimed that data privacy is a a concept of the past and called his users dumb fucks for providing their data to him. According to a quick search the latter came out around 2010.

But I‘ve also never really used any of the typical social media platform, so probably was sceptical from the beginning.
Funny side note, the guy responsible for data privacy in one of the companies I worked for was on practically any social media as soon as possible (he most likely went through every iteration of Google‘s chat platforms). In Germany we call that making the ram the gardener (den Bock zum Gärtner gemacht).

I liked the fact that he was initially willing to work with Biden on fact checking and toning down what's allowed when it comes to hate speech. I also like that he was willing to take on Musk in the ring. But now I see he's just a sellout piece of shit looking to kiss the ring with a real "do you like me now?" complex going on.

I don't care how they spin "free" speech, all they're saying is they want the ability to spew hate speech with no consequences or moderation. IMO there's a time and a place for it, X is a great example of the wild wild west and I say let them have at it.

On the other hand it feels like we should also have a right to a safer space where that sort of rhetoric isn't allowed but the billionaire class is more concerned with placating an angry base.

I see, you wanted to give Zuckerberg a second chance, which speaks for you.
But I‘ve read enough reports about how Facebook/Meta deals with data privacy laws in Europe that I didn‘t expect him to change his tune in any way (EDIT: long story short: They repeatedly got caught not respecting the European laws, promised to do better, but never did; big surprise). For me, he has been a asocial asshole since at least 2010 and that impression didn‘t really change.

Let‘s face it, we now have several narcissistic billionaires who only care about their money and shit on everyone else, which is why they are pro-Trump, because they want their taxes reduced.

One can only hope that both Xitter and Facebook lose enough users due to becoming right-wing cesspools. otherwise the misinformation will have an even stronger impact on future elections than it has at the moment.
(I‘m still wondering if Truth Social will get a boost due to Trump becoming President or if it simply dies, because the users can post the same crap on Xitter and Facebook now.)

I agree with most of what you said. The bolded section is only partially right. I think the real motivation is that all billionaires have a fear about class wars, a-la the French Revolution. Most of their postering is only based on which way the political wind is blowing, and I think they are very adapt to posture one way or the other. I say most because Elon is just plain crazy...

I do believe they all tend to lean right because it suits them best to have less regulations and taxes, but any "progressive" tendencies are mostly a shrewd portioning to keep the unwashed masses happy.

I would ask how many are actively using it anyway, younger people are all on other platforms now. I mean if his goal is to placate all the existing hateful people then mission accomplished, but I don't see how this bring in enough new people to change anything.
