Pluribus (with spoilers)

The man in South America who refused the food left for him seems quite dissatisfied with the situation. I think he’s the person Carol has tried to call, but maybe he’ll be more receptive the next time.
I think that the next episode will focus on him and what he knows. something about the frequencies he was scanning. Then at the end he and Carol will be together to share what they know for the following episode.

Any theories on what the scanning of the radio frequencies was all about? My guess is that the hive mind uses some part of the cellular frequency to communicate, which is why the cell phone service is unavailable.

i just assumed it was something more simple - he’s looking to see if there are any unaffected people communicating by radio.

Seems like they put some time into the production for those scenes though, it may go somewhere. Then again they seem to be going all in on the production value for everything, it's the one constant throughout this show and it's a masterclass in cinema IMO.

Latest episode was released several hours ago in my time zone. But I promise, you won't get any spoilers from me! 😅

I didn't know they were releasing on Thursdays until tonight. 🤷‍♂️

Should have known better than to assume the thing that looked like it was going to be a big thing was actually the big thing. Gilligan don’t play like that.

Carol needs to reply to that same message they keep replaying with "I don't need the message anymore, just a beep will do" then we won't have to continue to hear it over and over, I hate having to use the FF button during a show but it's too redundant.

I still think they're going somewhere with the frequency with that hit what's his face found before taking off. I can also see he and Carol hitting it off, we shall see.

The recorded message is quite fun to those of us who watched Better Call Saul. Voiced by the actor who played “Howard,” who was a very important character.

Also, I think they’re going somewhere with it - they’re hanging a lampshade on it.

What I found irritating about the frequency scanning. Why go through them all when you found one with something on it?

He wasn’t sure what was on it, what was on it didn’t seem all that helpful to him (hence the question marks), and if there was something on that frequency, perhaps there is something on other frequencies?

I’d surely check all frequencies if I thought that radio communications was important.

This was my takeaway, too. Just listening for anything but I really like the methodical approach with the timer and detailed notes.

As for Carol, just when you start to like her the turn her into a raving bitch again, something the writers are sure to keep in check. IMO it wouldn't hurt the show to show some sort of endearing qualities or an ounce of humanity with her character.

She is annoying, but she has good reason to be upset and frustrated. Carol is the only one she’s aware of who thinks the new status quo is horrible, despite the apparent advantages. The only person she can talk to is Diabaté, and he seems generally content.

In an odd way, maybe Carol’s humanity lies in her recognition that what seems like paradise, potential starvation notwithstanding, is bad for humanity.

As I watched episode 6, I kept thinking just how great Rhea Seehorn has been. Acting with no other characters around, as she’s often had to do in Pluribus, is especially challenging. Even Tom Hanks had Wilson in Cast Away.

That neither she nor Bob Odenkirk ever won an Emmy for Better Call Saul was criminal. I hope she is recognized for this role.

I just rewatched BCS (and am currently rewatching breaking bad), and BCS is, without a doubt, the best television show ever made. That neither actor won was just silly.

I have spoken.

I'm convinced she has less humanity than any of them, even when they've bent over backwards to cater to her she's shown nothing but scowling disdain. I know it's a fictional show but any person with an ounce of humanity would show a little gratitude for small kind gestures, even though we understand why she's upset, and the fact that she doesn't says far more about her character than it does the borg.

I put up with it because I do like the show overall, if it gets worse I'll just use the FF button for her scenes. I mean every one is written like "Carol is upset about this or that", we get it, there's no need to watch her bitch endlessly.

IMO Zosia was a shining star in this show and miss her, I hope they bring her back at some point. The rest of the supporting cast is very interesting and entertaining to watch when they do appear.

We have pretty diverse taste, from Deadwood to BrBa, The Wire to Mad Men, Succession to Severance ...

But this just isn't doing it for us. It's rare for us to really dig on the showrunner, creative team, lead actors and just not get into another of their products (i.e., we were huge fans of BrBa and BCS). It's not the slow burn, it's not the concept, just not feeling it.

Oh, and The Sopranos is the greatest television show ever produced. No debates. I'm up here, anyone want to try to knock of me off, come at me 'bro :D

(We just did our 3rd end-to-end watch through over the last month or so, it confirmed the above).

The problem with the sopranos is the first season was the greatest season of TV ever made, but (1) they didn’t stick the landing; (2) when the actress who played Tony’s mom died, it messed up their plans.

I get that, but I also wonder how most people would react in Carol’s situation, especially after losing her wife.

I can't name a show that I consider to be the runaway "best television show ever made," but I don't think "Pluribus" (the first four episodes, anyway) even crack my Top 100. It's way too slow for a show that asks the audience to completely suspend belief.
