So lay it on Ternus instead of taking all the bad press with you? The upcoming decisions don’t suddenly go away if that’s Tim Cook’s goal.
If it is a factor, I wouldn't see it as a "See ya, suckers. Good luck with that." exit. I see it more as deeply personal reasons he doesn't want to be part of the capitulation and feels somebody else could potentially handle it better and feel less personal about it. It's like a major business model change that he maybe feels he's not right for.
