In today's edition of the Guardian, I have just read that Mr Trump, (the egregious, the execrable, the inexcusable), has just issued 15 pardons, including four to the Blackwater military contractors who had been convicted of machine-gunning Iraqi men, women and children to death; oh, and they also unleashed sniper fire and grenade launchers while on their murder spree.
He also pardoned Chris Collins, imprisoned for making false statements to the FBI and conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and Duncan Hunter, who admitted misusing campaign finance funds. Collins and Hunter were the first two congressmen to endorse Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
Pardons for George Papadopoulos and Alex van der Zwaan, both convicted as a result of the special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, were equally unsurprising.
At the same time, he has accelerated the number of federal executions, - what Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have described as "an unprecedented spree" - including the first execution of a woman in 67 years by the US federal government.
While I loathe the cynicism, corrosive corruption, mendacity, malevolent narcissism, and almost illegal incompetence of Mr Trump, I think I detest his sheer shamelessness, his vicious and vindictive personality, and his passion for sadistic cruelty, even more.
