The BMW Thread

Yeah, there's an exit prompt on the main display, you can retain the climate, lock up without activating the security system, I believe something else that escapes me at the moment.

@Cmaier What free EA plan did you get? I think they moved to a total power consumed vs. duration (our is unlimited, 30 minutes at a time, hour between, for 2 years).

1000kWh over 2 years. My wife got the same thing on her i4 earlier this year. Given my experience with the tesla over 13 years, I won’t get anywhere close to using it all before my lease is over.

Has BMW mentioned adding some sort of pet mode so it stays on longer?

Not to me :-)

You can disable the interior motion sensors with the key fob, apparently (hit some button twice), and you can use your phone to turn the A/C back on every half hour, but that’s about it.

BTW, just checked the app, and so far I’m getting 3 mi/kWh and have driven 104 miles. The “community average” is 3.1 mi/kWh.

Battery capacity is 113.4 kWh, allegedly. Which matches the car telling me I have about 340 miles range on 100% charge.

What do you guys think of this interview?
EDIT: Also makes you wonder how they are getting said data, do you guys approve a datasharing option when using the Infotainment unit?

There is a data sharing menu. There’s also a data sharing icon on the top of the screen that jumps you to that - kind of an indicator that you are sharing data.

In the BMW portal, you can go to Car Data and download everything that's shared, also a full report of the hardware, battery condition, etc.

I've done it a few times!

And that API allows for integration with things like Home Assistant:

I work for a local Ford dealer. One of my jobs is to do remote deliveries of cars to buyers.

Part of the process is to teach them how everything works and to help their pair their phones and get setup with the Ford Pass app.

At least half ask about CarPlay and how to access it. I have only been asked about Android Auto once.

Anecdotal of course, but people seem to want to use it over the native interface, which is pretty good.

What data does BMW receive from your vehicles?
My Ariya shares info with Nissan. I get emails from them saying things like "you have 8795 miles on your car, come in to get your tires rotated." It probably sends all manner of telemetrics, who can guess. And of course it has a mic so it could be bugging me. What really matters is not what is reported but to whom the data gets sold.

Down in Tampa for a NIN show last night, it was spectacular, seats were incredible , Marriott upgrades for a great view, Lona was fantastic food (will post pics when we get home)

Anywhoo, on topic, the iX crushed it.

200 miles, arrived with 45%, running at 77+ most of the way.

Valet hooked us up to a charger, so leaving with 100%

Discovered that if you block the eyeball camera located in the dash it will still allow for all of the driver assist features with the exception of Assist Plus, which is for hands free on known areas of the freeway.

The problem is you can't look away for even a couple of seconds without getting warnings, I mean basic stuff like looking out one side or the other. Taking a drink of coffee or a bite of food, reaching for something for a moment, etc. Like the Tesla, it's pointless because it doesn't assist you as it's too busy babysitting you.

I always have a hand on the wheel anyway so I don't mind that part, I used my gas receipt as you can see and it works like a charm. So as long as you have a hand on the wheel you have a lot more freedom and it still feels nice and safe.

I’ve been using assist plus a lot this week in the iX. It does chime quite often about attention, but I can’t figure out a particular pattern. I can look down at the dash screen to my right, or down at my phone (which i keep in a little dock I had 3D printed to match the car), and it doesn’t chime. But sometimes I scratch my chin, or sneeze, or rub one eye, and it chimes. Today I was staring at the road in front of me, but I crossed my feet for a second and it chimed.

So I don’t know what it’s all looking for. But it hasn’t been any sort of problem, really, the alert goes away pretty quickly and the car keeps going.

Also, nice that I can just keep my hands at my sides and off the wheel and it very reliably keeps lane. In fact, my only complaint is it seems to make a lot of tiny course corrections on the road, even on road that appears straight, which can feel a little weird while you’re sitting there.

One thing that’s weird: in Assist (with hands on wheel), when I signal for a lane change, the car just changes lanes if safe to do so. In Assist Plus, I have to look at the relevant mirror before it changes. Seems a little weird. (Not to mention the third situation, which is when you are in assist plus and it suggests a lane change to you, and then does the lane change if you look at the mirror, and you don’t signal yourself)
