this probably belongs in a different thread, but this thread is the most current one

When you lose Rupert (or Lachlan), you know you are in trouble.

According to whom?

Them.

The Federal Election Commission announced Thursday that it won't proceed with a case examining whether former President Trump violated election law in 2016 a hush-money payment made through his then-lawyer Michael Cohen.

And it seems the DOJ was expecting to be able to prosecute Trump for other violations, but so far have not.
They decided to not seek an indictment of Trump for several reasons, Honig writes, including the political ramifications and the fact that Trump’s other scandals, such as efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and the January 6, 2021, insurrection, “made the campaign finance violations seem somehow trivial and outdated by comparison.”

spending your campaign money wrongly is a big deal. he will have to accounting for all of the gifting he has been doing now.

He didn't use campaign funds. The only reason it could be considered a campaign finance violation is that it might have created an improper "unreported assistance" to the Trump campaign.

Yet he sucks all of the oxygen from anyone else in the party, instead of talking about their agenda they're constantly defending him. The party has shown that they can't move on without him and can't win with him.

Michael Cohen was convicted and sentenced for actions taken in cooperation with, under the direction of and for the benefit of Individual 1. But somehow Individual 1 is innocent.

Yeah, their ideology for his defense is getting laughable.

He will commit more crimes between now and what seems like an eternity until he is arrested and charged, probably in two different states and at the federal level.

But while there will be morons who will do dumb things when Trump is indicted, they too will be arrested and convicted. There’s a lot of room in prisons across the country, but for the overcrowded ones, we can pass progressive agendas to let out people serving decades on false or exaggerated charges, and replace them with white collar criminals and insurrectionists.

We already have school shootings on a near-daily basis and these republicans do nothing, and I don’t see it getting better if a criminal like Trump gets off because he’s more famous than you or I, or held public office. So he should and will be charged, democrats aren’t going to be any less vocal in their approval than the cult is as they rush to defend their leader.

It’s good to set the right precedent when we have a corrupt and criminal president, and no president was as much of those things as Trump. Imagine a future president getting away with being slightly (actually, bigly) less corrupt than Trump. Like Nixon territory. They get a pass because Trump did worse?

The cult is long gone from reality, they will always defend Trump. You lose either way with them. You charge him and you’re corrupt, you let him go and you “prove” the investigation was weak, Trump was the victim and they still think you’re corrupt, but Trump gets to brag about how “completely and totally exonerated!” he was. So I’d say let them think they are corrupt and bring a criminal to justice.

I didn't say he was innocent. I said he didn't use campaign funds.

And everyone might want to put the popcorn away for a while. The Grand Jury won't meet again until mid to late April.

And what was Cohen convicted of? Mainly tax evasion and lying on a loan application completely unrelated to Trump. The payment to Stormy was included, but wasn't the main focus of his conviction.

The only one making it popcorn worthy was Trump and look at how he played every Republican out there over another line of total bullshit. I swear you've never seen a group of more gullible people.

And I didn't say he used campaign funds, although with Trump's history of cheating who knows where the money came from. That's apparently not necessary to characterize what was done as a violation of campaign laws.

I don't know much about Cohen's case, other than what he says now and I believe he has seen the light and reformed. He says that his lies were, again, to benefit Individual 1.

The big problem is that Trump considers all money his personal money, so he doesn’t know or care if he uses money from his moth-eaten wallet or his campaign fund. It’s all his, so he can use it, right?

That was what he was charged with based on the deal to cooperate. Not because that was the only crime he committed on the behalf of Individual 1.

It's a start. Looking forward to announcements from Jack Smith and Fani Willis.
