Weather

Funny thing is…we’re currently in St. Augustine. Came down on Tuesday with plans of going home Saturday. Right now it appears Helene is going to hit Tallahassee, which is almost midway between here and home.

We’re here to celebrate the 10th anniversary of my brother’s store. The restaurant where he’d made arrangements for the big party tomorrow night has already announced it’s closing due to weather. Fortunately, he found another place that will stay open and host the event.

We’ll what happens tomorrow and if it keeps drifting west.
Wishing the best to you and everyone in the path.

The devastation from Helene in NC and TN is really indescribable. Whole towns just gone. Roads washed completely out. Just unreal.

Texted my cousin who lives in Hendersonville, NC and they have cell service, but no power and no gas to run a generator. So they are running it a couple hours a day just to keep the fridge cool and charge phones. She expects it to be at least a week before they get power back. Luckily for them, I-26 is open so they can leave if they want to.

A good friend of my BIL was in LA when it hit, but hasn't been able to reach his family in Asheville. And he can't get in to check on them either.

Going to be a long time before this region returns to any semblance of normal. :(

This is getting very scary. To everyone this affects, please take precautions to remain safe. Including your pets.

This storm is really going to Gummo up the works.

(Gummo was the stage name of Milton Marx of the Marx Brothers)

Hurricane Milton as seen from the International Space Station as it is re-intensifying over the southern Gulf of Mexico.
What a view (hit full screen). This thing is massive.

I heard that there is a particular social media network that is based in Sarasota Florida that may experience some shutdowns because of the storm, unless the operators have set up redundancy, which is not the kind of thing they are noted for. Mastodon may see in influx of users if that other platform becomes inoperative.

Is anyone still in touch with @DT? IIRC, he lives in Florida. I hope he's okay and not in the path of Milton.
He lives in St. Augustine near my brother. He should be fine. My nephew evacuated Tampa for St. Augustine, and we were there during Helene.

I'll text him though and let him know everyone here is worried.

This makes my blood boil. #HurricaneMilton

FHP Troopers rescued a dog left tied to a pole on I-75 near Bruce B Downs Blvd this morning. Do NOT do this to your pets.
People who do this don't deserve pets.
