Well, Its tricky to perform a therapeutic procedure flying blind... I'd call it an unfortunately painful but diagnostic procedure .
Your prior issue quite likely worsened the outcome of the fall, but I totally agree with Roller's assessment that unless something changes, you will be fine with some TLC to the area.

Took a spill stepping off a 2' retaining wall and slipping on a rock and fell on my side about 3 days ago in LA and I'm not sure if I bruised or cracked my rib but it still hurts like hell. I called Kaiser and they said they couldn't setup and appointment right now and I would either need to contact my regular doctor or go to the ER, where we pay $27K a year for health insurance just the opportunity to pay a $600 copay for an x-ray.

It won't matter anyway as I understand it because there is no real treatment for this other than time anyway but it would be nice to know if it's fractured.

Reached out to my doctor and she concurs with you guys, stating that even if it's a fracture that not much can be done other than waiting it out. I do have an upcoming annual CT chest scan (former smoker with COPD) on Friday and she said it would spot anything out of the ordinary as well.
