General What’s Your Ailment?

so that was a bad call lol.
Well, Its tricky to perform a therapeutic procedure flying blind... I'd call it an unfortunately painful but diagnostic procedure ;).
Your prior issue quite likely worsened the outcome of the fall, but I totally agree with Roller's assessment that unless something changes, you will be fine with some TLC to the area.

Took a spill stepping off a 2' retaining wall and slipping on a rock and fell on my side about 3 days ago in LA and I'm not sure if I bruised or cracked my rib but it still hurts like hell. I called Kaiser and they said they couldn't setup and appointment right now and I would either need to contact my regular doctor or go to the ER, where we pay $27K a year for health insurance just the opportunity to pay a $600 copay for an x-ray.

It won't matter anyway as I understand it because there is no real treatment for this other than time anyway but it would be nice to know if it's fractured.
Sorry to hear that! Wishing you a non painful recovery ❤️‍🩹

Reached out to my doctor and she concurs with you guys, stating that even if it's a fracture that not much can be done other than waiting it out. I do have an upcoming annual CT chest scan (former smoker with COPD) on Friday and she said it would spot anything out of the ordinary as well.

CT scan didn't find anything with the ribs so maybe they were just bruised? I still have pain but it's mostly eased up now, just getting to where I can sleep on that side again.

The COPD (bullous emphysema that I've had since I was a teenager with inherited lung issues) hasn't progressed in years and nothing else is suspicious so all in all the results are good.

Man got beat up by something. Feels like fun or COVID but both tests are negative. So who knows. Getting better today.
That happened to me a few weeks ago after I attended a huge event, tested for influenza A/B and COVID and all were negative but whatever it was kicked my ass, I haven't been that sick since I had COVID. All upper respiratory, started with a really sore throat and a lot of sinus pain and fever for 3 days, was like a super cold or something.

Glad you’re feeling better! It’s worth noting that subtle rib fractures may be very hard to detect on CT, especially if done with low dose technique and if the images weren’t processed to accentuate the ribs. They sometimes are easier to see as healing takes place a few weeks later. Regardless, you’ll do well.

ya me either. took a week to get bad. then two days of bad and now better. wife and I both at the same time. the first time she cam grocery shopping with me in a while.

Starting to experience more and more sciatica. I have had episodes in the past where I would get pain shooting down my leg, but those events were few and far between.

Now it seems like I am getting a less painful version, but more often. Last night it was especially bad so I put some ice where the nerve bundle is. (My wife gets myofascial massages every week and know all connection points and what pressures fix what etc.

She put the ice pack in the perfect place and within 30 minutes the pain had gone away.

I think this is happening because I sit a lot driving various vehicles for the dealership. I guess I need to stop and walk around more often.

Have you consulted a physical therapist? Simple measures like removable seat cushions and different postures (in addition to taking more breaks) may help with this.

Sorry I get the sweats thinking about PT’s. LOL. I have never hated a pretty girl more than when she doing my PT for a knee surgery. 😉

To answer your question, not yet. This has only really starting occurring more frequently over the last couple of months.

Maybe a seat cushion would be a good answer. I think part of the problem is when I drive a vehicle without power seats. Sometimes it is hard to get comfortable when the adjustment positions aren’t ideal. And then you ride/drive like that for a couple of hours. Power seats allow for infinite adjustments so the seem to be more comfortable.

I will look into seat cushions. Thanks.

Edit: Just ordered one from Cushion Lab. It is memory foam and gets good ratings. So I will give it a try.

I know what you mean about PTs – if it doesn't hurt, we're not trying hard enough. :)

But the PTs I've worked with have done wonders. Even if you don't see one formally, it might be good to ask what they recommend if you can do that through a patient portal or something similar.

I had something similar 3 weeks ago, negative too but felt sore throat, cough, only one day feverish and sinusitis since then 😟
My husband and kids didn’t get it. Something similar got only my husband but he didn’t pass it to me or to the kids, two months ago.
It’s so weird that is a virus and it’s not contagious?! Very easy the kids brought it home from school🙄
