What are you doing today?

That you weren't told anything about what to expect for pain drives me nuts. One of the most important responsibilities I had when I did invasive procedures on patients was setting expectations for pain and how to deal with it. Hope you get good news in the morning.

Glad that you can sleep on your side, though. Staying prone for a week or so would be tough.
The cataract surgeon warned me that the retina surgeons’ water soluable stitches would be scratchy (they are), but that’s about it. I think there was a little passing the buck since two different surgeons were involved.

Thanks! Today is a little better than yesterday. Saw the surgeon and he tells me it’s all normal and the surgery went perfectly. Apparently I have some very sticky vitreous on a portion of the perimeter of the retina, so he spot welded there to prevent future problems, hence why I have to sleep on my right side (as opposed to either side). Looking forward to the air bubble going away in a week. Biggest nuisance is my eyes watering like a faucet.

He also confirmed there is nothing wrong with my OTHER retina (after reviewing a new retina scan) - I sometimes see some very slight bending when reading text at around 18-24” away. The operating theory is that the fancy lens in that eye works in a novel way and that distance is right at the very edge of how close it works, and my brain just interprets the light as bending. So that’s good news. It’s kind of fascinating because of the way my brain sometimes compensates and sometimes doesn’t, even looking at the same text at the same distance.

And I had to miss out on a movie premiere with my daughter, with Eli Roth and Gus van Sant present to answer questions - my wife took my place :-(

Get well soon Cliff!
My mom had similar surgery and it's not the most comfortable (understatement of the year). with the eye bubble in place you may have to wait a while before you can fly anywhere (not sure if they mentioned that to you - something to do with air pressure).

In any case, wishing you a healthy recovery.

LOL, yeah, I am forced to wear an emergency bracelet that has all sorts of warnings for EMTs about using nitrous or transporting me by air because I’ll go blind. The bubble is air in my case, so they say it should dissolve in 7-10 days, though I’ll probably be restricted for a month just in case. I’m not scheduled to fly anywhere until a hearing in Delaware on Apr. 1 (great new client I worked hard to bring in over the last year. A name everyone knows. Sued on 7 patents. Fun!).
