What Movie Are You Watching?

National Treasure (2004)- Love this movie because the chain of clues and treasure sound plausible, and consider it Nicolas Cage’s best movie. I did not care for the second one, that in contrast felt very formulaic and implausible, and and over the top.

As I recall, all the computer-related things took on NCIS level absurdity. The rest I liked. “Of course I hacked the ADOT camera as we passed it, I just wanted you to notice…”

Saw Superman in IMAX. I thought it was pretty fun, Gunn pulled it off. Wouldn’t place it next to the best of the MCU films but looking forward to watching it again. Vastly preferable to Man of Steel for me.

28 Years Later is a fantastic movie. IMO it's what The Last Of Us should've been but fell short. It's steeped in cinematic beauty, a compelling story and plenty of grizzly thrills. Highly recommended.

Superman 2025 is a disappointment.

Normally a fan of James Gunn but his vision of Superman as one who has lost not only the hearts and minds of the people, but also the ability to take on normie humans with an axe to grind, enter Lex Luthor is just out there. Right out of the gate it shows a beaten Superman on death's door and this is where he spends most of his time throughout this movie, either poisoned by kryptonite or nearly beaten to death by every foe out there.

I really didn't spot all the "woke" agenda people were talking about personally, it was preachy but also all over the place without a clear message. It has cool moments, the dog is pretty awesome and there are some lighter scenes that were funny but overall I didn't think this was a very good movie at all.

I like it much better than you but agree there’s not much woke about it. Gunn should have not mentioned that immigration stuff until the film was out for a month. Let the MAGAs fall in love with it first and then drop the bomb.

I haven't seen it yet. Waiting for it to stream. My brother and sister-in-law saw it and said it was just hilarious.

I thought Guardians 3 was horrible....and that James Gunn's "campiness" can only hurt DC. Just watched Superman last night. Nothing good to say about it - but I'll leave it at that. Don't want to ruin it for anyone else.

Man of Steel was epic.

Right, you want him to be super, not beaten up and poisoned throughout the entire movie.
The dog scenes were pretty funny though.

I should rewatch Guardians 2...stayed away from the series after how horrible 3 was.

The first one was awesome - great balance of story-telling and humour (and a sound track that all of us gen-X'ers heartily enjoyed) :D - Gunn was playing to his fellow comic nerds in his generation.

Edit - DC should have poached Jon Favreau - I think he has a better handle on the balance of light and dark we'd like to see in these movies.

Start with 1 to flow into 2. Agreed 2 sucked.

Empire Records recently. It’s stupid, but it’s almost perfect. Gen X gets it.

I only spent a few minutes fast forwarding through War of the Worlds 2025, but it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen. (I was curious because of the 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.) I guess it would be OK if it had been done as a self-parody, sort of like some of the Sharknado films, but I suspect they were serious. Watching the trailer is enough to show you what you hopefully missed.
