Sorry, but it was long before that. I only ever took HS Psych, but "projection" was one of the things that was touched on. Those of us who remembered the term from younger days have seen the Republiopaths engaging in that kind of bullshit since at least the mid '90s. It is most decidedly nothing new.

I think with this president, you never saw "projection" as the default strategy of president the way 45 doggedly embraces it.

In Paris on Thursday, Donald Trump said, “A lot of people don’t know” that “France is America’s first and oldest ally.” That may be true. But commentators noted that when Trump uses the “a lot of people don’t know” formulation, it’s usually a sign that he didn’t know himself.

It’s called projection. And Trump does it with remarkable frequency. You may have noticed that over the last few days, Trump and his allies have begun talking a lot about the Hillary Clinton campaign’s alleged collusion with the governments of Russia and Ukraine. On Wednesday morning, for instance, Trump tweeted a quote from the conservative Washington Times that claimed, “Democrats have willfully used Moscow disinformation to influence the presidential election against Donald Trump.”

Why is Trump suddenly interested in the Democratic Party’s ties to the Russian government? Perhaps because on Monday, The New York Times broke a blockbuster story about his campaign’s ties to the Russian government.

We just haven't seen any one individual in politics lean on projection to the extreme 45 has.

Congresswoman blocked from touring mail facility by Postal Service police

“If DeJoy thinks he can just throw a bed sheet over what’s going on behind these doors, he is sadly mistaken," the congresswoman said.

U.S. Postal Service police barred Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz from entering two mail sorting facilities in Florida in the early morning hours on Friday, threatening to escort her from the property if she didn't leave.

The Florida Democrat, who sits on the House Oversight Committee, said she aimed to inspect a mail plant in Opa-locka and Northwest Miami-Dade. Wasserman Schultz said union members told her about conditionsat the processing centers and shared pictures that showed pallets of undelivered mail marked with a receipt date of "July 23."

Her office said those photos were sent to them earlier this week and raise further questions about how the Postal Service is being run under the leadership of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a close ally of President Donald Trump. NBC News was not able to independently verify the photo of the reportedly undelivered mail.

“If DeJoy thinks he can just throw a bed sheet over what’s going on behind these doors, he is sadly mistaken. It looked like the post master had something to hide,” Wasserman Schultz said in a statement. “Without access to these public facilities, the public is blindfolded to the problems or fixes taking place there. DeJoy cannot delay the mail and delay oversight of these facilities.”...

The Postal Service maintained Wasserman Schultz was stopped from entering because she did not provide enough notice of her visit.

Kim Fuller, a spokeswoman for the Postal Service, said Friday that the agency welcomes visits from members of Congress, but that they only "learned late yesterday afternoon that Representative Wasserman Schultz wanted to arrange" a tour.

"We spoke with her staff to explain that we were unable to set up the tour on such short notice, but would be happy to accommodate her at another time," Fuller said. "We look forward to working with the Congresswoman and her staff to arrange a visit in the near future."

Wasserman Schultz's office pushed back against that characterization.

A congressional aide told NBC News that they alerted the Postal Service at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday that they intended to make the visit. Because of the photos and the fear of what might be hidden from the congresswoman's view, the short notice was intentional.

"We weren’t asking for permission,” the aide said.

Rep. Brenda Lawrence and Sen. Gary Peters, both Michigan Democrats, visited a similar facility in Michigan last month. An aide to Peters said Friday that local union leaders had told the two members of Congress that the plant had been intentionally cleared of delayed mail because of their impending arrival.

Wasserman Schultz did not want the Postal Service to have the same opportunity with the plants in Florida.

But when Wasserman Schultz went to the Royal Palm Processing and Distribution Center in Opa-Locka, Florida, for a 4 a.m. tour of the facility, the entrance to the parking lot was blocked by caution tape and a Postal Service police car. Her visit to the Miami Processing and Distribution Center a couple hours later was blocked by two Postal Service police officers in the lobby.

“Hours ago, that tape wasn’t there," Nick Mosezar, a member of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, told NBC News' Miami affiliate. "All of a sudden today security is a priority, yet this is one of the worst secured facilities in this state."

As a member of the Oversight Committee, Wasserman Schultz said it is her job to inspect the Postal Service and its facilities. She said DeJoy has already "obstructed the committee" by not providing documents and data her committee has requested.

Sudden new requirements for "lengthy visitation protocols" that she did not have to follow when visiting facility earlier this year, she said, only served as further obstruction.

“There are no children, defense secrets or sick patients behind those doors," Wasserman Schultz said. "I’m perfectly capable of observing the work being done at a safe social distance, which I did without a lengthy delay or incident earlier this year. Denying Congress access to the facilities, is denying the vital public oversight of our mail system.”

You could be forgiven if this kind of “restricted tour” and its conditions remind you of...oh, say North Korea.

This is a three alarm fire here folks, with ambitions of becoming a five alarmer. Trump is also restricting Congress’ ability to personally question intelligence services as well. The way he’s blocking oversight, he very well could steal the election and be well on his way to a permanent presidency.

As I understand it they have their own police. I’d love to see what would happen if DWS showed up with the Capitol police or the Secret Service. Doing it with a court order would be even better.

USPS official warns some voters may not "have their vote counted" over "supply chain" issues: report

A top U.S. Postal Service official warned the agency's leaders on Thursday that "supply chain" issues may prevent voters from getting their ballots on time, according to a recording to a meeting obtained by The Daily Beast.

A senior USPS official told agency leaders, including Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, printing services used by states may not be able to meet the demands ahead of an expected surge in mail-in voting amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"With the dramatic increase of ballots compared to previous elections, in some cases a tenfold increase in the number of ballots in some states, there are some issues in the supply chain," the official said, according to the report. "Some of these printers… just don't have the capacity they were used to in prior elections."

"Despite the heroic efforts I know you guys will pursue to get that ballot in the hands of voters," the official told colleagues, "the reality is, that's going to be a difficult situation for that voter to have their vote counted."

At least one official present at the meeting dismissed the warning about the supply chain to the Daily Beast as a "cover for leadership's failures."

You know, I've no doubt the printing issue is going to be ginormous this time around, but they've known about if for months and had time to get their ducks in a row. If this were the Obama administration they'd probably even be putting Secs of State in contact with printers who are able to take the workload on. But in the Trump era, we just get a cavalier dismissal like, "Some votes just won't get counted. Tough break."
