Or maybe they expected him to do what he said he would do and he hasn't. Certainly he said he would shut COVID down and he hasn't. Inflation is killing working class families at the grocery or Walmart and gas prices are up. Just a guess.

Democrats can’t seem to get their priorities aligned with the American people which is constantly shifting. The biggest concern right now is inflation but it seems like Democrats' only concern right now is voting rights. Not saying voting rights shouldn’t be a top priority, but it feels like that’s all the 2 parties are going to focus on until the midterms. …and there’s a high probability that Republicans will win that battle too.

Some are suggesting that the BBB should be completely scrapped and popular legislation from it should be put up to the vote individually. Those things may not pass but at least every member will be on the record on how they voted. I’d even wager some Republicans would flip their blanket obstruction when faced with a direct vote on specific legislation. Let’s see who gives a finger to paid leave or reduced medication prices.
 
I was contemplating starting a new thread for this, but I’ll just put it here. The establishment and their news media need to own Biden’s low ratings. I don’t know anybody who wanted Biden to be the candidate, or at least weren’t excited about it, and that includes people in his age group. What the establishment wanted was stabilizing mediocrity. Well, they got half of that but only half because they miscalculated that mediocrity would be stabilizing. So stop blaming voters or the left (they don’t even call it far left anymore, which is telling). You only have yourselves to blame for putting your thumb on the scales….again.

Another thing I find telling is when Biden was asked by right wing media at the news conference why he went so far left he said that he didn’t and that he isn’t Bernie Sanders or a socialist. That is the hill he will die on and possibly take democracy with him. Neoliberalism is Democrat’s trickle down economics. Let’s just keep pushing it despite the decades of evidence that it doesn’t work for most Americans.

One of the main reasons Trump voters site for supporting him is that he fights for them. Biden doesn’t do that and he only shows a glimmer of passion when it’s legislation that doesn’t upset the wealth of the donor class. Everything that might help the common American he’s fine letting die a slow death. If Trump was in Biden’s position he would loudly be shitting all over Manchin and Sinema daily.
 
I haven't been too invested into this because I think no matter who the president is people are going to be dissatisfied as long as there is a pandemic this epic. IMO both Trump and Biden have blown in with their responses and in the end there's no real clear and simple solution so there will always be controversy around it.

I think Republicans will take back both houses in the midterms, never mind that historically it nearly always goes to the party that's not in charge, but throw in the pandemic and it really seems impossible for Democrats to hold. Additionally, if we don't see any light at the end of the tunnel in another 2 years Biden will likely be voted out too.

It's a shitty time to be a president.

I'll agree to an extent, but Biden didn't just run on "Hi. I'm not Trump.". He had actual platforms that he's now bailing on one by one and the establishment seems in disbelief or angry that the voters might be mad about that. Why can't they just bathe in the glory of Biden not being Trump? Isn't that all they wanted? No, that's what the establishment wanted.

This is a fair statement. I would've driven for hours in the snow to vote for a crusty sock with a lengthy criminal record to vote that lunatic out of office.

The establishment doesn't live in the same world as we do.

I think credit needs to be given to Trump for one thing, he proved you can go against the establishment and win. And they didn't like it because now the voters know it also.

I'll give you this. Conversely, 4 years later he was voted out by the same margin he initially won by. One can postulate on the reasons but it makes a case for a more moderate candidate with staying power. BTW I don't think of Biden as having it either. IMO a more sane Republican like Romney or McCain (RIP) would've served us far better, at least with them we could go back to debating differences on issues and policy, rather than how crazy they are.

There's a good chance that Democrats' inaction on multiple issues will put Trump right back in office and he'll have even more ammo that Democrats failed them.*



*for whatever reason voters are supposed to ignore that so did Republicans as a block and they probably will ignore that.
 
This is not an approval poll per se, but...

More than two-thirds of the nation’s Republicans believe the House should impeach President Biden if the GOP takes control of the chamber in November, according to a University of Massachusetts Amherst Poll released Friday.

The poll finds that 68 percent of Republicans would like to see Biden charged by Congress for treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors, the formal criteria for impeachment laid out in the Constitution.

Can anybody tell me what the justification for the impeachment is? I haven’t seen anything, so maybe 2/3rds of Republicans think you just impeach the President if you dislike him?
 
When politics has devolved to petty revenge moves, you know this country is screwed.

That is more or less what happened with Clinton. Yeah, he lied to congress, but the issue being investigated wasn't criminal, and shouldn't have required sworn testimony to begin with. They wanted to impeach and remove him to "preserve the sanctity of the office."

So yeah, this is no surprise to me.

Post-Watergate, we had an Independent Counsel law. It was renewed many times, and upheld by the Supreme Court. However, the law was allowed to expire in the late 90s. This is part of the reason that we had the executive branch investigating itself during Trump’s time in office. While Robert Mueller was allowed to act somewhat independently, AG Barr lied to the country about the findings. Think of how differently things might have gone if we had a truly independent counsel investigating Trump.

Here’s a quick history of the independent counsel. I learned quite a bit reading this, including the fact that Clinton signed a new version of the lapsed law in 1994, which was then used against him.

I will say that sadly I think we have started down the road of every President being impeached for something when the opposite party has control of the House. Most won't go anywhere because of the 2/3 vote in the Senate, but the House will do it anyway.

Equally concerning is Congress seems incapable of either making or keeping any “Let’s at least make sure this never happens again” legislation, be it for political or economic abuses. For all those believing Trump would never learn his lesson. He did. It’s just the polar opposite lesson you were hoping for.

I don’t believe anybody has officially started down that road yet. The impeachments of Nixon and Trump were well-deserved. Clinton’s was the result of an unrestricted fishing expedition by Starr that went way beyond what he was supposed to investigate, but Clinton did lie under oath.

If Republicans impeach Biden before even providing a justification, then I’d say they started down a road of their own making.

Don't forget though there calls to impeach Trump BEFORE he even took office. So maybe what's good for the goose ..............
