Donald Trump 2024 Presidential Campaign Announcement Nov. 15

As far as Ron DeSantis goes: he's basically a little fish in a big pond once he gets out of Florida except in a few other red states where he has name recognition from fly-in events.

I really wonder if this will motivate him to avoid running, especially given how well he's doing here in FL (and since he was elected in '22, he'll be head dipshit till '26)

I suppose we'll find out tomorrow. It'll probably either be a weaseling walk-back blaming everyone around him and how unfair they've been to him, or he'll go full in and run, spewing a bunch of nonsense. I'm guessing the latter.

it may be a good thing as his income will be tracked far more.

I hope the Dems will just worry about their own aims. These midterms did good for them and they should be preparing for the next congress. Don't worry about Mango and DeSatan. They have the Senate, with the House is still up in the air, but they need to set their agenda no matter what happens with the lower house. Leadership decisions, legislative agendas and shoring up the party heading into 2023 off-year elections and ultimately the 2024 Presidential election should be the only focus.

I love Facebook. One of my local news stations asked if Trump should run again in '24, and...

Probably what DeSantis does depends on what Trump says in the near term... and whether that lout of a former prez has in fact managed to dig up anything that would dissuade DeSantis from a run.

Of course Trump having done so much shady stuff himself and (so far) still sorta skating on it makes one wonder if there's any criming a relatively popular pol can do that disqualifies him from running for higher public office, or party leadership posts.

We have a bunch of 1/6 insurrection plotters or enablers still sitting in both chambers... and some of them even know they did wrong because they were looking for pardons before Trump left office. And a few of them do apparently plan to seek higher office or Republican Party leadership posts. ☹️

Case 1: Trump wins the nomination. Hard to see that happening after these midterms, Jan 6th, looming indictments. But a lot can happen in what, 18 months?

Case 2: Trump withdraws or loses, then falls in line behind the nominee. This seems the most likely to me. Surely Trump knows that if he can't win himself, an R in the White House is his only ticket out of prison.

Case 3: Trump loses the nomination and goes full Truth Social, starts his own Freedom Party and splits the Republican vote believing he can win or to spite the Republicans. Also doesn't seem likely, unless he's truly delusional.

Case 4: ?? What am I missing?

This is actually really important. This American Life did an episode on the efforts by Steve Bannon et al to fill the 200,000-some rank-and-file committee positions with MAGA election deniers, in the hopes of fundamentally changing the makeup of the Republican Party. These are the officials that ultimately have control over who is nominated. The result has been a huge increase in applications, and it seems like it's working. If they keep up the pace, In the next couple election cycles we may see a pretty dramatic shift in extremism within the party.

Yep, Trump would need the magic key of an R president's pardon to get out of any federal jams.

If the Rs are lucky, he's not ruminating again about how there's no reason a prez couldn't pardon himself.

It's going to be bad enough even if Trump doesn't try to run, he'll still be out there every day wanting to get that spotlight back on himself. He'll be talking about how he was robbed in 2020 and how he actually won the popular vote too in 2016 because 11 million "illegals" voted for HRC, and her emails yada yada.

"But let's get on with tonight's rally and here's my good friend hah hah, Ron DeSicca, ya know Ron, you would make a great bullfighter with that face, I'm tellin' ya. And yer wife there, what a cutie, did she sew that dress herself? Ladies and gents please welcome the DeSentenoros!"

All we can say to the Republicans about that is "We told you that trying to dismount the Trump tiger would be dangerous."

The GOP really thought they could use him and lose him. Hah. He's going to be a millstone around theiir neck in 2024, their worst nightmare in a way they never bothered thinking about. He is literally incapable of not being the center of attention. And if he runs 3rd party and splits the GOP base? He could not care less as long as his fans persist in elevating him to near deity status. He never wanted the actual job, just the perks and the power and the adulation.

At some point, Trump will start gaining even more press as he acts out against other republicans. That attention he so craves will perpetuate him to keep going, like fuel.

He’s already laying heavily into Mitch McConnell, once against today he referred to his wife as “CoCo Chow”.

exactly I think its one of the only reasons he will run plus money and he hopes he wont be prosecuted. he craves the attention like no one else. he missed being in a three ring circus.

Trump is 0-3 and will probably be 0-4 in statewide Arizona races. I’m glad his heir apparent Kari Lake went down in flames on the eve of his big “announcement”.

Those statewide failings no doubt hurt other republicans on the ballot. Some of the house seats were less than one percentage point away from being taken by dems.

If that doesn’t send a message, I don’t know what will. Looking forward to tomorrow! 😂

Please, Trump, slow your roll. We need you to remain at least slightly justifiable to those moderate voters just a little longer before the full implosion.

A slight detour to the subject of running mates: Remember why the Trump camp chose Pence? To give the impression of a traditional conservative in the room to moderate Trump's worst impulses?

Cue the eyerolls from everyone—Pence standing meekly behind his master, mocked for his obsequence, treated like so much window dressing, a gleeful Trump steamrolling his way through the presidency unhindered—and then, lo and behold, Pence refuses Trump's election lies, certifies the vote in 2020 and saves democracy, ironically fulfilling his purpose in literally the most dramatic fashion possible against a background of tear gas rising from the Capitol. I don't know if Hollywood could have done it any better.

All that was missing was Pence tossing some insult back to him in a clever zinger as a sober Trump is led away in handcuffs by policeman Carl Winslow.
