Electric Vehicles: Tesla specific talk, current firmware, purchasing, modifications

Elno is now going to get out of battery electric cars and switch to hydrogen, which he once called "stupid."

And honestly, it is. BEVs have the advantage of not having to visit a fueling station every few days; electricity is very easy to ship long distances; hydrogen is notoriously difficult to contain; currently, the common commercial hydrogen production method produces large amounts of carbon dioxide; and the water vapor that would be emitted by millions of hydrogen cars is a powerful greenhouse gas that would bollix the climate just as much as CO2 does, possibly worsely.

Good BEVs, especially bearing the imminent solid state battery tech, are just the better choice for 99% of use cases. The only place for hydrogen might be as a direct range-extender for BEVs on long trips.

Seems like this is bait. I also cannot find a primary source for this that is reputable.

So has anyone actually gotten the holiday update yet?
I got a software update notice in the app last night. Of course, I will get no new features and it will just break my seat heaters or something …

I believe I got it. Added some extra UI elements such as a separate "Seats" tab and the new Appel Watch support.

I got 33.40 which gives me FSD 12.5.6.4. But it isn't the holiday update.
LOL. So I come downstairs and get in my car to drive my kid to school. Dashboard is black. I reboot the dashboard screen. Nothing. F$@#*#.

I start the upgrade from the center screen, figuring it is worth a shot.

Take her to school using my wife’s BMW.

An hour and a half later (!) the car finishes the update. Both screens on, but now i have that damned “center screen unavailable” error again. F#$*$#($#*($.

I do the “change my tire size twice” thing, and now it all seems to be working.

Argh.

It may be that one of the computers is failing, and I have an appointment next week to take the car in for service because the A/C doesn’t work. But if I try to add a concern for them to look at, it kicks my appointment out by another couple weeks.

Fuck Tesla.

Yeah with your luck... You should probably trade your S in for an Macan or Polestar 3

I hate that the only time I can use this thread is to complain about Tesla but their music app features are completely useless. As mentioned before, I'm unable to search, use playlists, etc. on any of them. On either YT Music or Amazon Music you cannot search within the apps themselves, it runs the search across all apps as I mentioned before.

I sat there parked for a while trying to make sense of it but can't, it simply does not work. I have to stick with the iPhone running through bluetooth. I swear it's like Tesla hates its owners.

So I needed to use my phone for something last week while I was stuck in stop and go traffic, maybe 10 MPH tops for about 20 minutes. I put it in autopilot mode (I don't have FSD) and it kept beeping at me every time I looked down at my phone. It then shut down the feature for the rest of the drive and gave me an infraction, it was like MacRumors all over again!

So I put a piece of tape over the big brother cabin cam and haven't had to worry about it since. In fact I just added one of these to my cart.

BTW I've been eyeing the BMW i4 as my next car. One thing it was great about was recognizing you were stuck in traffic (under a certain MPH) and then allowing longer intervals between touching the wheel. In many ways my old BMW was smarter than the current Tesla.

So I dropped my car in for scheduled service this morning (A/C doesn’t work), and now they won’t give a loaner or ride share credit unless your car is expected to be in there for 48 hours? Fun. That kind of customer service is a good reason to fork over luxury car bucks to Elon.

My car’s been there for 7 hours, and hasn’t moved an inch. Not expected to be done until tomorrow night, though they haven’t even diagnosed it or given me a repair estimate yet.

I seem to remember that they’d give me a loaner when I brought my lowly Eagle Talon in for service back in the day. Porsche certainly did every time, and BMW does every time for my wife. Elon is very innovative.

I was able to talk my wife into going with me to test drive the i4 today and it was actually pretty nice, basically what I expected. When factoring in the negative equity of my current Tesla it's just not worth it to take the loss, we ran the numbers and couldn't even come close to what I am able/willing to spend.

The biggest factors for me are still CarPlay and active cruise control, which they're calling something different now and it has to be added as a separate package as to where it's all pretty much included with the Tesla. I'll re-assess in a couple of more years when I have things paid down to a more reasonable level.

As an aside can you take a video of your issue with the music search in the car? I wanted to see if I could replicate the issue.
