LA Wildfires

My daughter was on the edge of an Evac zone from the Hurst Fire, but the winds shifted back south and the order was eased.

And sadly a friend from my freshman floor has most likely lost his house. He was at work and his wife was out of town. He has not been allowed back in but it is right in the middle of PP so he is guessing it’s gone. 🥲

I'm in the middle of planning a photography trip down there too. This thing sounds really bad.

Biden better hussle and get them some money because we know trump won't do anything. he tried it last time and they convinced him there were republicans there.

🥺 😢

I’ve just realized that there are actually multiple big wildfires going on right now and renamed the thread to reflect this. I can’t shake a feeling that the worst is still to come. These fires are springing up everywhere. Now Hollywood hills are on fire too.

This was Altadena, north of LA, a few hours ago.

I cannot believe this devastation. Updated: removed very old picture.

It will be sobering to watch our entire system of insurance fall apart.
Climate change is becoming the grim reaper of modern civilization.
Hopefully I will be gone when the inevitable subsequent mass migrations and associated mayhem start wreaking havoc on what is left, but my kids & grandkids may well not be.

It is more sobering that 47% of ages 18-29 voted for Trump's climate agenda. Hint; it's not even a concept of a plan.

Sadly yes. Even well capitalized insurers are going to suffer from this one. It is getting harder and harder to get home insurance. When we moved to AZ, I had been with Nationwide for 30+ years and on my parents NW policy before that. I had one real claim in those 30+ years and that was a hail storm that replaced my roof. So I would have been considered a low-risk policyholder who isn't making claims for minor stuff.

Moved out to AZ and NW wouldn't even consider insuring my house because of the threat of wildfires. And my house is stucco and has a tile roof and sprinkler system.

So I expect more insurers to leave CA and those who do stay will charge much higher rates.

He confirmed it this morning that his home is gone. 🥲 When I saw him a last year they had just finished up a major remodel and now it is all gone. Can't fathom this.

His wife is back in town and is meeting with the leasing agent for an apartment in my daughter's complex this afternoon. She checked and they had availability so she texted me and he is most likely going to take it so he can just be done with that part and try to move on.

Last night I was helping an old friend who has her son living in between the Palisades fire and another one near Pasadena. She was fearful about him and couldn't find where he lives on this map. L.A. took the power out to avoid other fires.
It took me sometime to find his address but at least for now , it seems he's ok. So sorry for all the others who lost their lives and or their houses. What a tragedy!

It took them long enough. Was watching coverage last night and they were showing homes on fire with the lights on. WTH? I guess if a transformer sparks while it is already on fire, it really can't light anything else on fire.
