MacBook Neo is the Chosen One

Off topic, but someone who could conceivably know tells me that Apple is toying with replacing the finder interface with Lil Finder, and they’re testing his acceptance with the neo ad campaign.

Or maybe they can bring back the MiniFinder from System 2.0 that made it a bit easier to switch applications. Lil’ Finder Guy is sort of cute, but I hope he doesn't become as annoying as Microsoft's Clippy.

Uh.........

I think the figurine is cute, but it's cute because it's based on the Finder logo, which is uniquely Mac. Removing that in favor of a social media ad figurine would be... negative.

Also, marketing in general needs to learn the difference between taking a win vs overdoing stuff. I fucking hate when marketing pretends to be cool. So did Steve.

The short form ads on a certain social media website are mostly good, but if that became a regular thing, no. This is a low cost MacBook and Mac has the lowest user base out of iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so I appreciate that they want to try something new. One criticism I have is there's no actual connection to the MacBook Neo. There's a lot of discussion about the ad itself, but the actual ad nor the ad description makes mention of the MacBook Neo.

I don't know what "replacing the finder interface" with what is a 3D character of the Mac Finder logo, but I want the logo to stay the same. But also I want Apple to be Apple, and they know more about what I want before I do in products. Still, what makes Apple marketing special is that it doesn't over do it.

Fuck those companies that try to be hip and cool. You're either cool or you're not. Apple is cool, another company trying to sound "in" on memes is not. Great marketing is broadly appealing with it resonating to specific audiences more, but it's something everyone can appreciate. As soon as you betray intelligent communication for specific demographic appeal you've lost

Finally, and most importantly, why the hell would you replace an entire ass UI based on something from social media? These people are far smarter than me hence they know that nothing on social media lasts. What's funny and cool one day is stupid and overdone the next. NEVER base anything off of social media.

I’m not sure I understand what this means. Replacing the finder windows with a modeled little finder guy who runs around pulling my files out from underneath the dock or?
