Of course. There should also have been a red carpet rolled out for Trump on his way into court each day, the thermostat set to 75 degrees and his coinpurse caressed with the delicacy of a flower.
What we can’t be having any of, is this criminal grifter facing remotely anywhere near the consequences you, I or anyone else would.
Would truly be bad judgement for the judge to treat all defendants equally. That’s how democracy ends, by not propping up the rich and powerful.
I think it’s bad judgement to give him twenty chances. Or fifty, or whatever he’s up to now. For the party who’s all about tossing people’s asses in jail and cheering on the death penalty, they sure do look like big fat hypocrites with this criminal nimrod utterly controlling the minds of his gullible followers.
Throw him in Riker’s for a week. Not because he is or isn’t a former president, but because it’s literally what the judge would do if this was any other defendant.
I love how you cherry pick a line and then narrate a whole point of view based on things I never said or implied.
First of all, the gag order on Trump is questionable at first. There’s some who argue they’re inherently unconstitutional, I’m not sure that’s true, but it does seem they should be used only when absolutely necessary. The ACLU previously sided with Trump in regards to a gag or order in the Jan 6 federal case.
In this “hush money” case I can understand why the judge might want a gag order. But it’s not like Trump won’t make his opinions known through his surrogates and supporters in the media. At the very least it seems inappropriate for Judge not to gag the other parties involved (ie Cohen, Daniels).
In some sense frankly, gagging Trump probably most benefits Trump. His mouth is his own worst enemy, as we know.
Throwing Trump in jail over his asinine statements disproportionally escalates the situation with his base and draws more unwanted attention (attention of the wrong kind). I don’t think Trump would mind a weekend at Rikers, he would play into just as he has every other situation that for any other political would be catastrophic. It gives even more credence to his claims of unfair treatment- whether that’s true or false is irrelevant because it will only energize his base further.
I’m 100% on board with holding criminal politicians accountable. But clearly elites benefit from a separate set of rules and always have. Top Politicians are rarely treated the same as an average person. Govt Officials represent the govt and should be held to a hire standard if you ask me. Yet it’s pretty unlikely we’ll ever see such justice. Politicians generally get to live above the law in our country.
Though I wonder if we are heading towards a country with a corrupt legal system, misused to persecute political enemies. This case’s may be one of them, the basis IMO is super flimsy. If convicted I suspect it’ll be overturned and I think the prosecutor ion and judge know that. A standing conviction had never been the goal.
That’s not to say Trump doesn’t have legitimate cases, very serious in nature. I’ve long believed Trump is likely guilty of crimes related to election interference/fraud. I’ve also long believed Trump’s election denial and rhetoric incited 1/6 and intentionally allowed it to proceed- not sure if this is a crime per se but it should be considered disqualifying.
Ultimately I believe justice will likely be properly served in the cases where that deserve it. That is unless Trump is re-elected which seems increasingly more likely.
