What are you doing today?

Absolutely. I'd also highly recommend spending some time in Kanazawa.
Next time I will, thanks for the tip. Kyoto was amazing . We had the chance to be there at the end of November and the trees were so beautiful!
Asakusa is the place where there is the Buddhist temple of Senso-ji? So big and incredible too!

The bigger question I've got for myself at the moment is that I don't have a passport, and so no idea how getting one is going to play out with the shutdown happening. But as long as I can get it issued by spring I should be okay.

You should be good. But you can go ahead and get the pics done (you can actually take them yourself, you just need to make sure the size of the face matches the requirements).

Also, the Post Office is still operating so you may be able to get it submitted even though it might sit at the Passport office until the shutdown ends.

There are also services that can expedite it by walking it through each step. But not cheap.

I also recommend going ahead and getting a Passport Card. Won’t work for you going to Japan, but good for Canada & Mexico and we use them to fly vs a DL (mine is Federal, wife’s is not).

For your amusement, this I shot yesterday

Yes, that is a Tesla, at the gas pump. But,
We had the BF Windstorm. We were out and about, to get breakfast, because the house was dark. Traffic sucked the big one because everyone else also had our problem. Would I guess, the guy in the Tesla has a gas-powered generator at home.

Yes, the large temple in Asakusa is Senso-ji. Definitely a must-see for visitors.

Sorry for you too! The flu shot shouldn’t be so bad 🤞
It’s covid that is pesky one way or another
After a brutal couple of days from the COVID shot I got the flu shot yesterday and other than a little bit of soreness in the arm I had no symptoms which was nice.

i’d love to retire there, yes. A whole heck of a lot would have to change in the tax code to make that possible, I think.

If we weren't so settled down where we are now, that's where we'd go - stat. Close to the Presidio and GG Bridge is a huge plus. And... SF Muni can take you pretty much anywhere inexpensively if you're not into driving in SF.

Even if I could afford it (which will never happen lol) I'm not sure I would do it, it's great to visit and arguably one of the most beautiful areas in the entire Bay Area but the traffic and crowds there almost every weekend are insane. The main Safeway in the area is always jam packed with people as well, I would say if you are retired it won't be a big deal but otherwise getting around during rush hour or weekends can take a long time and a lot of patience.

Good points... It's just a dream sort of thing. I like SF's energy and diversity, with a huge range of things to do. And like bs-ing with people on the street (and a portrait opportunity). A Clipper card can take you anywhere, though we'd still have a car for road trips.

Most of my friends are up in SF, though a couple dozen of photography and artist friends were pretty much forced out when gentrification and techbro-ification set in, resulting in super high rents and home prices. It all started around the time twitter moved up to SF, followed by other SV tech companies.

I ended up buying a scooter (2 of them now) and it's the best thing I ever did, absolute freedom to get around anywhere and everywhere within a few miles of your destination. Easily bypass traffic and take maybe 5 minutes to get to where you're going when it would normally take an hour by car, it's been a game changer for me and photographing events.

My wife and I have a scooter, two e-bikes, serious-ass bike locks, and a bike rack for the X3 or iX. It’s fun to drive somewhere, park in a convenient place, then hop on the bikes to ride around. We did it in SF once, and biked around the embarcadero.

This is the way, if you moved there your cars would probably do a lot more sitting lol.

I've posted this here about our stay on Lake Eola (re: possibly moving there), but we are 100% closing up shop here in St. Augustine, we no longer have any interest in being home owners, we're moving, on up, to a deluxe apartment in the sky ...

Oh wait, that was the Jeffersons, but close :D

This will likely be our view :)

(WTF with IG links ...)

Dropping down to a single vehicle (the iX50, that will likely be replaced with an iX70 unless Rivian gets their shit together or the iX3 has an M60 version that's super compelling)

Uber to Universal or Disney for lunch? Yes please :D

Daughter (at least for the first couple of years) will be at UF or UCF, the former is about the same distance from DTO vs. here, UCF, obviously just around the corner.
