Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)- Worthy prequel and worthy portrayal.

2015 Documentary, that I am sure was discussed at the other site, but probably heavily moderated. "The Brain Washing of My Dad."


I thought that the filming and narrating at points was a bit amateurish, however I found the content to be compelling and very relevant for today.
 
Just finished Horizon. It’s beautifully shot, Costner knows how to do that. The cast is enormous. I took 3 sittings to watch it, which may have contributed to me being a bit lost at times. It’s not a spoiler to say at the end they show a wordless preview of the next film, maybe two minutes of footage. It was weird, this project is unusual and ambitious.

For those that don’t know, this flopped at the box office and the second one is coming out very soon. They’re showing the first on Max now to generate interest. I’d recommend it, but it’s just a lot.
 
Quiet Place: Day 1 (2024) We saw a version of Day 1 in the beginning of Part 2, at least from the perspective of the original characters. This 3rd movie takes place in the big city and technically happens before the original movie. While I iiked the original and the sequel, this 3rd installment, from what parts I caught while my wife had it on, did no do much for me... It was telling the same story from a different location and different characters..

 
Here’s a weird one. Maggie Moore(s) on Hulu. Stars Jon Hamm and Tina Fey, directed by John Slattery (Roger from Mad Men). It’s a small town crime story. Tonally dark with comedic elements, almost Coen Brothers-y. I’m sick today from a COVID vaccine and was desperate for a diversion. I really liked it; it helped that I had no expectations.
 
Land Of Bad (2024)- 94% Audience rating on RT. Watched on Netflix. Excellent, taught, survival action thriller. Russel Crowe redeems himself post Guardians of the Galaxy performance. ;)

Thor: Raknorak (2017)- In the realm of all Marvel stories, imo this is one of the best, most creative, a story thanks to the director, that’s blends a significant amount of humor in with dead serious drama and maintains just the right balance with amazing visuals. Great performances all around. And there are a lot of changes, Odin passes, Mjollnir is destroyed, “Ass-berg” is destroyed, Hulk is found, Thor get’s his hair cut by a creepy old guy. It helps to know some history, but this can be enjoyed as a stand alone story. ☺️

Amazing Spider-Man (2012)- I was down on this remake because Tony McQuire was not in it, even though it’s a reboot which usually means a new actor. . Just watched it and it’s good enough.:)

Avengers: End Game (2019)- The magnificant Infinity Stone Saga Franchise Finale.

”If you go back in time and change the past, you create a new future, and your old future where you came from is your past.” given as the reason why killing baby Thanos would not work.This is a tacit nod to a popular view of how time travel might work. Then the writers proceed to blow this out of the water, changing the past 7 times, creating 7 new futures and yet via Stark’s quantum gps device, and the quantum realm, they can navigate back to their original time line.

And I’ll avoid talking about how “old” Nebula, brings Thanos and all the baddies from the past or how Capt America placed the infinity stones back at the exact moment to undo what was already done, and then makes it back to this timeline without the Quantum gps. That lost me. 😝

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)- Top Marvel Film masterpiece in modern entertainment, the story, direction, characters, intrique, and music. Fast moving and wonderful, the exact fine edge of drama against humor, a feast for the eyes. Hard to believe it’s 10 years old…

Excellent movie. And Vol. 2 was as well. 3? Not so much.
 
Watched Deadpool & Wolverine again last night (now that you can watch it at home) :) Watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice this afternoon - a slow starter that one - hopefully it picks up the pace!! :)
 
Civil War was surprisingly good and not what I expected, or what most people would expect. For those uninterested for similar reasons I was, it doesn’t get into ideologies, pick sides, or get into details of the sides. It’s about journalists in a war zone who have to lean on their perceived neutrality to gain access and that doesn’t always keep them safe. We all know what differences of opinion might cause a civil war here, but most (not all) of the time you really don’t know who is on which side or based on what beliefs.

A conservative friend of mine got wind that CA joins forces with TX and that blew his mind, but in the movie that was just a passing comment. I had to repeatedly tell him that they don’t get into it beyond that comment. It’s like he really wanted the movie to be about what I was grateful it isn’t. :ROFLMAO:
