Cats

Looks like our luck ran out. Cat looks like she has breast cancer. It’s particularly aggressive in cats, and so even with (another) surgery, prognosis is less than a year. Need to have a consult to see what our particular situation looks like once the lab results come back.
Sorry to hear about your cat. Not too long ago, our cat developed an aggressive malignancy that was making it very difficult for him to eat, causing rapid weight loss and lethargy. He was miserable, so we had him put down. It was a tough decision after having him as part of our family for many years.

Sorry, man. Me and my kitty wish your’s the best.

Sorry to hear.

Sometimes we just have to do what is best for them no matter how much we don’t want to.

Yeah, the one bit of “good” news here is that it seems like we caught it earlier than many usually do. So she’s still in good spirits and seems more concerned about my mood than her’s. She’s also eating as much as ever. That said, pay close attention and you can tell she’s not a young cat anymore. Her desire for play is down, more because of the arthritis I think than interest. I’ve been trying to introduce some "low impact" play which seems to help.

But the writing is on the wall. Even with surgery, it’s pretty much a guarantee it will come back, and it will come back much faster than either the lymphoma or brain tumor. I’m setting up consults anyways to at least get an idea what to expect and see if we really are early enough that it might be worth doing the surgery. Have to weigh if it is worth putting her through another two recovery periods, though. no idea until we get her looked at.

I ordered an urn. Yes it’s a bit early. My father went through some trouble dealing with the cremains of my sister due to how sudden it was, and so I’d rather have it on hand, even if it will gather dust in a closet for maybe a year.

Good luck with your decision-making.

Our cat’s cremains were scattered somewhere, but the company sent us his paw print mounted in some type of durable material.

Spoke too soon. Got the biopsy back today. It's only grade I breast cancer, which carries a better prognosis than we were hoping for. Trying not to get too optimistic, but the doc who did the surgery mentioned this is very uncommon for it to be this low-grade. So it's looking like we have a good chance to get at least a year, possibly quite a bit more than that if the other tumors show up the same when they are removed.

Not sure I believe it. LOL.

I am so tired today. Wife is gone for a few days. They let me sleep Saturday night, but last night they were into everything.

Ours with IBD will vomit more often than most cats. The annoying thing is that she'll want to go outside, and then eats grass to try to induce vomiting. But she demands to come back inside so she's safe when it all comes up.

I know I shouldn’t laugh because she is sick, but that’s kind of funny.

Have you ever bought a thing of “cat grass”? You can get it at the pet store or grow it yourself. It’s a special grass that’s supposed to aid digestion.

We buy it regularly. It’s mostly just wheat grass. Doesn’t aid digestion, but cats will eat it to help with hairballs.

When she was younger, she’d stand on her hind legs to get at wheat grass we’d bring home from the supermarket. She just also eats the grass from the yard when we go outside.

Our late (or, as the Pythons would say, ex) cat often gave a warning when he was about to cough up something nasty. He'd make a distinctive sound and his body would heave characteristically. Depending on where he and I were, I was sometimes able to scoop him up quickly and deposit him in a place more suitable for cleanup after the event. What always got me was how quickly he'd return to normal activities, including eating – when I vomit I can't stomach food for hours, if not longer.
