iPad Air updated to M3. Interesting … possible sign of what the MB Air will do? (ie update to M4, M3 will stick around as base)

I’m currently advising a colleague on what to get his daughter for her study. Told them to wait because the new air is just around the corner. They want something at the price point of the current M2. I’m hoping for them that either the M3 takes that price point when M4 comes out or if they choose to keep M2 and cut M3 the M2 price hopefully goes down a smidge.

They might be able to get an existing M3 Air on clearance if it gets dropped and they keep the M2.

Let it run iOS on the outside screen, and iPadOS on the unfolded inner screen; I would also like it to have secure storage for a full-featured Apple Pencil Whatever...

But the whole "no seam" thing would be quite important, as a primary reason for the unfolded screen would be as a digital sketch pad...

T6032 and T6033 is probably the M3 Ultra. 600GB/s and 800GB/s

These could just 2x M3 Max or if its a new die something else.

And just to make today even more interesting, I was wrong here. Apple dropped the M3 base AND the M2, reserving the $999 slot for a binned M4. Huh. Today is ... full of surprises.

I’d say they wanted AI across the board, but then they did that weird base iPad thing, so I dunno. (The base iPad thing actually makes a little sense to me - I bet most of those are sold to schools and for POS and the like, where AI is either not necessary or is a bad thing). Though my kid’s school gave my kid an iPad Pro 12.9” with M4, so we are more swanky here than most.
