Will Kevin McCarthy become Speaker?

They actually managed to make me empathize with Matt Gaetz when they surrounded him and one dude lunged at him and had to be held back

Dude, I’m so confused. I feel bad for McCarthy, but not really. I felt bad for Gaetz too, but not really.

McCarthy is now on video, begging and pleading with one of the worst half-dozen or so republicans in his caucus, after 14 votes failing.

Do republicans have enough to adjourn?

*Matt Gaetz had a clear change of tune earlier, admitting McCarthy would likely win and declining to refuse voting for him. Then this. We all predicted a clown car, but it’s kind of odd when it happens.

McCarthy had to walk past the dems, clearly embarrassed but playing it straight. Boebert smirking and laughing, clearly thrilled with the whole debacle. Fight nearly breaks out. Ugh.

*McCarthy is a desperate man. He went from a defeated man to looking like he had an adrenaline rush. Deflated to elated. Gaetz is walking this dude around on a leash.

Also, it seems like January 6th in general is not an auspicious day for the Republican Party.

They don't even have the votes to adjourn... nope, I'm wrong, they do have that. no they don't.... Wow!
 
This is just going beyond absurdity..... Is this any way to (attempt to) run a country? Sheesh!

Time to kick all of the Republicans to the curb and start over again......

Nah, it’s a bright spot on a bad day in congress, on the anniversary of J6.

The whole thing is surreal. And what I want to know is have they managed to move Gaetz now or have they convinced someone who voted for Biggs or Jordan to vote for McCarthy after all?

Welp it sounds like some switches to 'present' are going to lower the bar...

They’ve embarrassed each other, the Freedom Caucus conceded to McCarthy, Matt Gaetz looked like a political genius, and footage of McCarthy groveling and the party nearly coming to blows will no doubt be played over and over all the way up and through the 2024 elections.

This is a “We told you so moment”. Yet, McCarthy’s neutered speakership will be spun as a “victory” for them.

Much ado about a tiny margin, eh? The tiny margin was already difficult. Now it will be a madhouse. Those six holdouts voting present are only the tip of that iceberg. They caved for a price but the price was not any kind of one-time payment. They'll be back all term upping the ante.

It's kind of sad that for first-time members-elect, the swearing-in will be taking place in the middle of the damn night... with half the reps on camera now falling asleep or yawning. Usually it's in the daytime with the families, kids, photo ops on the steps and everything. Wonder if they will do some of the photo op stuff on Monday instead.

Republicans misbehaving, but dems probably will too.

Good luck man, you’re sure as shit gonna need it. This may be the last bit of bipartisanship we see.
