Will Kevin McCarthy become Speaker?

Didn't they make it so only one or two people can unseat him for any reason? They're pretty much crippled and held hostage by the radicals at this point.
That’s IF the rule package passes, which it probably will but it has to be voted on. The other wing could rebel. At least one Republican has said he’s a no.

That will have to be voted in on first. So that’s the catch… there’s a catch every way you look at this. If they pass it, it will take the moderates going along with it. No dem will vote for these rules. Five republicans tank the rules. Any package with dem support will be poison to many republicans, as the FC will accuse them of being RINOs and “voting for the Jeffries rules package”.

Matt Gaetz said he wanted McCarthy in a straight jacket if he was Speaker. That was before McCarthy had to beg him live on National TV.

It will be interesting to be sure. I expect chaos, but have no predictions other than that.

There’s a good article on McCarthy on CNN today. It confirms a lot of what I suspected about him. He’s the kind of man who should be the kind of leader the country needs, but due to a combination of bad luck and thirst for power, no longer is fit for that role. But because the guy is just a politician and not a killer, I empathize enough with him enough to hope he can do well and prove me wrong. Definitely not putting any money on that one.

one person could move for a vote to unseat the speaker, which is a situation that's existed in the past, but was changed during Pelosi's time as speaker.

I think it plays out as, first a vote on the motion, and then if the motion passes they'd have a vote on whether to unseat the speaker, which if passed would lead to another round of votes to elect a speaker

but as pointed out above, the rule has yet to be approved

yes, a very interesting article

Well, they vote on the rules package tomorrow, so this will be a great glimpse at McCarthy’s ability to get votes together in his party. They’d be smart to prove the last week was growing pains and use the rules package - no matter how screwed up it is - to show unity and to have a quick vote. I don’t think that will happen.

He could save us all a lot of time if they just made a new rule to not vote on anything. This would also wipe Geatz out from such an idea causing a brain aneurysm from something as layered as the plot of Inception, an obstruction wrapped in an obstruction buried in an obstruction.

Although few and far between, there are Republicans who saw the writing on the wall and GTFO, and I'm sure it was prematurely to what they planned. I don't think I've seen any serious person on the right who homestly believes the party can be saved from what it has become. Even if they got rid of the nutters, their traditional platform is either time tested and proven bullshit or unpopular to a majority of Americans.

They want it so a snap vote to unseat him can be called for at any time by one member. It would remain to be seen whether any time that option was exercised, there would be enough votes to oust him and more to the point, to elect a new speaker who is not (accidentally) the Democrat Hakeem Jeffries.

It would be hilarious if they did allow Hakeem Jeffries to be elected. This is the same bunch that cheered when Gaetz voted "Present" as they thought it finally gave McSpineless the gavel.

I’m shocked they put themselves in a position to allow Matt Gaetz to be the deciding vote in round 14. To watch McCarthy have to walk up the aisle and beg one of the absolute biggest chowderheads in his conference is something else. Like, not winning the votes is one thing, having the vote come down to that guy is just bad management any way you look at it.

I say all this to say I wouldn’t expect Jeffries to become speaker due to Republican miscalculations, but it would not surprise me either.

Hearing McCarthy talk about Santos the last few days and knowing what the House GOP has coming down the pike, McCarthy's attitude is almost as if he doesn't GAF, as if he wears being an easy pushover who's willing to do whatever asked to remain Speaker is a badge of honor.

Anyone see him vow to have a true bipartisan committee and allow democrats and republicans to pick and choose their members without interference, someone pointed out to him "Yeah, but you already said you wouldn't put Schiff and Swalwell on the committee, so that's a lie".

McCarthy froze :ROFLMAO:

Sorry to necro an old thread, but this is gold from the Whitehouse twitter account:

Unclear if this is the end for McCarthy yet

Republican In Name Only Speaker In Name Only - RINO SINO Kevin McCarthy - is stating what we've been saying about these nutjobs forever. You've still got George F'n Santos running around a member of the caucus.

McCarthy is not a stupid man, but to play the role of a Trumper, you have to act as such anyways. And whether you're stupid or acting stupid, its a distinction with no difference.

And as predicted one of the major reasons for this chaos? McCarthy folded to the right wing extremists and forbade further funding for Ukraine as part of the bill - all but 5 Republicans went along with this. I remember some here were hopeful that supporting Ukraine would remain bipartisan, but I feared it wouldn’t and sadly, at least in the House, that prediction came true. To be fair the Republicans in the Senate are, for now, keeping their brains on for this issue even if they had their spines surgically removed.

Talk about being on the wrong side of history. They have internet brains with no ability to predict how this’ll make them look. Unreal, I fucking hate the Republican Party, they’re awful human beings.
