Cats

Wish my daughter luck today as she hopes the little boy she found online is adoptable.

He is, but she can't have him. It is a private shelter and they require you to be 25. She's 24, has a great job, her own place and has been around cats since she was born. They told her to come back in 5 months when she is 25. She told them she isn't waiting that long to get a cat.

the shelter heard a bunch of lies about her eating cats, and this is the consequence.

If only people would stop lying like that…

So, this one (just coming up 2 years old) has had a rough week.

High temperature on Monday, took to vet Monday evening for diagnostics. Local vet: inconclusive, referred to specialist at University Veterinary Hospital (Murdoch University, Western Australia).

2 days of tests, to determine she likely has FIP.

2 years ago this would be untreatable, but as it is caused by a mutated coronavirus infection, meds developed for Covid have been shown to have good results.

This is how trusting she is though, first morning after returning home from being shaved, biopsied, multiple drips, temperature checks, etc...

Update on kitty above. She's on some antibiotics (as a hedge against it being something other than FIP pending result of tests due today - officially its still Fever of Unknown origin, but leaning heavily towards FIP based on her symptoms and history) and Meloxicam for reducing the fever. Also some anti-nausea medication to help her eat.

Seems to be in much better spirits, still not eating a heap but...some. Temp is down from 40.6 C to 39.5 C, normal for a cat is 38.5-39 or so.

Her name is Megumi (some anime’ character is what I am told). She picked her up yesterday from the shelter.

I have to say while the shelter was very nice, it was very disorganized. We went up Saturday to get one cat that said “Ready to go home”. It was not. Not even there. This was the second time this has happened to her.

But this one popped up and she immediately went and got her.

Was really disappointed at the number of pets labeled owner surrender. WTF? Don’t get a pet if you aren’t willing to accept the responsibility.

I'd rather they turn them over to rehome shelters than what most people around here do, which is dump them off in the woods behind my house to die.

I see at least 3-4 cats a year that show up for a couple of weeks, then disappear forever. I've got a cat right now, Tux, who's now sticking around the longest, and I'm 100% he's either a lost animal, or someone dumped him in my neighborhood. He's way too friendly and trusting to be feral, plus he meows a lot, which is always a sure sign he's been around people.

Haha…. rookie cat.

this is what our 6 month old kitten managed whilst we were away for a long weekend… photo from pet sitter.

this bag was not in this room originally (it was in the room in the background). additionally, it did not have a big hole in it.

she dragged this bag what…. 6 feet or more and then chewed a hole in it to steal some food.
