I think Harris made several mistakes. First, Walz while he seems to be a decent guy, was a horrible choice. At least from a strategic perspective. She was winning Minnesota no matter what. So he didn't get her anything there. A choice from a swing state such as Shapiro in PA or Kelly in AZ would have helped her carry those states. Of course in hindsight, it wouldn't have mattered, but no one knew that when the pick was made.
Second, she was horrible at answering questions. Even softball ones. After the election pundits on the left pointed to her not being ready to answer what she would have done differently from Biden. She was asked this several times, but the one from The View is the one that sticks out. How in the hell was she not prepared for this question? That answer should have been discussed among staff and committed to rote. And it is not just RW media saying this. The left wing pundity came out hard on this AFTER the election. Not sure why they didn't before when it may have mattered and could have changed things.
As to the economy and immigration: The economy is the tough one because of the inflation. And the inflation was created by printed COVID money. That was done and there was no going back and undoing it, but she could have been way more sympathetic to the struggles of some people. And had a plan to fix it that she could have articulated. She didn't.
On immigration, the Dems own this and it was an unforced error. In an mad dash to be less like Trump, they undid almost everything he put in place and it cost them. People are fine with immigration, but they will not stand for an invasion which is what was happening. The administration could have cracked down on it anytime they wanted, but waited until a few months before the election and by then it was too late.
Current polls suggest Harris is the 2028 front runner at like 41%. Really? Newsom is only at 8%. Double really? He is the one that scares me the most. But if they want to trot out Harris again, by all means do.
The Dems seemed to place all their chips on the abortion issue and it was simply too far down on this list of things most people cared about. Depending on the poll, it was anywhere from 4-6th place and most important to 8-10% of the people. That won't win elections especially when the Economy and Immigration are the top 2 and people trusted Trump more on these two issues.
Has anyone wondered why Jill who liked to dress in couch fabric most of the time wore a bright MAGA red outfit to vote?
That's a pretty good analysis. I'd only add that Harris spent too much time talking about how awful trump is (and would be). While true, that time could have been much better spent offering solutions/programs she'd put in place addressing people who were struggling economically and not being able to get ahead.
