Looks like there is some compromise and both sides are pissed so that means we're meeting in the middle somewhere, it's as good as we can do with the current environment so I say we go with it.

As for more stringent requirements for the poor go I think they're an easy target, you can see them going into a 7/11 or in line at the supermarket pulling out their SNAP or WIC cards. This pisses off those with jobs or who are well off.

I maintain if you had to physically take all the money you are taxed to pay for billionaires and huge corporations and hand it off to them directly in front of everyone people would have a very different opinion of them.
 
You see a billionaire memorializing his bought and paid for Supreme Court justice in an expensive piece of artwork, and you see why republicans target the poor instead of the wealthy.

That said, there’s always room to make social programs better, and that includes preventing abuse. Nobody is against fair reforms, even if the GOP ire is (purposefully) misplaced. We waste far more money on corporate handouts than we do social programs.

Still, it’s at least nice to see a bit of sniping and deal making without either leader getting in the mud, and having decent words to say about each other afterwards.

As usual, one side threatens to burn down the house if they don’t get what they want, even though they got plenty. Because to them, burning down the house is what it’s actually about.

This might be a good opportunity to give a kill shot to the far right nutters in the house. Approve the debt ceiling, have the nutters file to have a vote to remove Kevin from the speakership as a result, and then enough adults in the room from both parties vote to keep him in that position. Then the nutters will have to go back and play with their nuts.

Maybe Republicans can learn from Democrats on how to completely neuter their own extreme flank. Of course to the right, the fact that AOC is still capable of sending out tweets is proof that there’s a socialist takeover of government. But if you look at her record you’ll see that she is one of the least legislatively effective members of Congress and the progressives have come nowhere near the power of the sedition caucus.

We do take it for granted and I'm not sure we should in a world where Roe v Wade was overturned. I think it's only a matter of time before they circle back to this one and attempt to do something about it.

Heard a discussion between people on the center right who said in their experience one of the many key differences between the left and the right is people on the left tend to have some idea what people on the right’s struggles are and in some cases sympathize. They just mostly hate some of their bad extreme actors and disagree with what the right feels the causes and solutions are. People on the right just blanket hate people on the left and don’t give a fuck about the left’s struggles on any level. Even just the thought that the left could say they have any struggles pisses them off.

I like to sometimes browse through Fox and OAN and read the comments. It never hurts to try to understand what the other side is thinking. As near as I can tell, they think "God, Country, fear and hate". Or "Christianity, USA, fear and hate" to be exact.

There’s a lot of people who don’t have any purpose or satisfaction in life. For people on the right that generally leads to patriotic and/or religious LARPing to fill the void.

The absolute worse is when unhappiness for whatever reason results in abandoning principles and corruption of the standards you are supposed to believe in as an American, so you can regain whatever perceived advantage you think you lost.
Slavery is a good historical example, we hate you uppity blacks because despite our best efforts, you gained your freedom and we lost our good times (low cost forced labor), so despite living in a country founded on freedom, equality, and equal opportunity, we’ll do everything in our power to fuck you over including strip your voting rights, because when I lose the advantage, the equal opportunity shit just does not cut it! :unsure:

There are some who have the mentality that they need to have people worse off than them in order to feel superior. As more and more wealth gets redistributed to the top you have to start scraping the barrel to find people who are worse off and you're going to get pretty damn mad if you feel the government is doing anything to help those people not stay below you.

Are their campaigns being funded by a Trump PAC? These people are the best campaigners for Trump I’ve seen. They have rushed to his defense with zero criticism.
