USA Election 2024

Currently I’m in California so taking advantage of that. It’s been my home star since 1974. After I sell the house, who knows. Most likely Oregon as I’ve previously mentioned. I’d love to remain in CA but doubt I can afford it.

I also have several pre-existing health conditions so I’m basically screwed. Plan B, once I’m out of here, hire a death doula since I don’t have the nerve to end my life myself. But with zero quality of life and not even a Lab to love, I honestly don’t give a rat’s ass anymore.

As for anything Musk health related, count me out.

I’ve heard good things about the healthcare in MA, but then you’ll have to also be a fan of real seasons and less than friendly people. Also the cost of living might be comparable to CA, but that will end on day 1 with all the deportations.

Hey, am I unfriendly? :)

Seasons... Yeah it gets cold, but let me tell you I bought a snowblower 2 seasons ago. I have used it three times and only one of them was a legitimate use. I think it is due to the climate change, but one man's observation is another man's bunk.

I would say the cost of living is slightly less. I hear the order is NYC, LA/SF, Chicago, Boston, but I maybe wrong.

The biggest issue we face is traffic. I think we were rated the 3rd of 4th worst traffic in the world! I can't verify what methods were used to rank that, but from my own personal experice I can attest it is bad. One of the major highways here I-95 or also know as 128, is almost always congested. Even on Sunday's and Saturdays. I live in the city of Boston (on one of the edge neighborhoods), and it takes me 30-45 minutes in the morning commute to go 7.5 miles to work. I dread going into the heart of the city on weekend nights, and don't get me started on the public transportation. It was a good thing that the public had a minor kiniption and blocked the 2028 Olympics. It's an old crappy hub and spoke system with very little options going from spoke to spoke.

Other than that, it is a quaint little city. It has charm and history, but you get what you want out of it. I like the area, and sometimes the people (when they aren't in a car), but it does have its issues. One thing I like is that it is very blue. However, I am worried about what Trump will do to put the screws to us and make us bend the knee.

I would love to experience seasons again. I spent kindergarten in Bangor, Maine, while my Dad was stationed there. But due to my Raynaud's disease, I have to live in a warmer climate. Hence Southern Oregon being on my list. They get snow, but more like a light dusting.

If I was looking for a warmer climate I’d move to Costa Rica for the nature. I left a message with their consulate requesting everybody there first learn to speak fluid English before I move but so far they haven’t responded to my original request or multiple messages requesting a status update on the project. I'm ready when they are.

Costa Rica is absolutely beautiful. I spent 17 days there visiting a friend many years ago. Hopefully you can get them to honor your request, lol.

I agree with an assessment that at least for the first year, short of a nuclear war possibility, they need to not line the white house with baby bumpers and pool noodles this time. Let him attempt his worst. The people need to see exactly what they voted for in all its harsh glory.

We also seriously miscalculated the youth vote. They voted on current economic reality vibes. They have no sense of the past or the future. There’s endless complaining about the work ethic, priorities and entitlement of young people in the workforce today. It shouldn’t be shocking that they voted based on their current dissatisfaction without a concern beyond that. If we're going to burn it all down they at least want it to be entertaining.
Sorry to be a downer, but right now my attitude is the worst it’s ever been. Better to consider than insert head up one’s buttock.
That said: Follow rules? The other side DOES NOT, lieing, cheat their asses off, until they’ve passed draconian laws, and even then, they’ll always play it by ear. The new law is do whatever keeps them in power. I predict at some point they will stop going though the pretense of being “lawful”.

Once new Election Boards are established in every red controlled state, elections will be a joke, just in like Mother Fucking Russia. There’s a very good chance Trump will try to withdraw from NATO. And guess what, if Congress is controlled by the Reds, it will happen. Then wait for it, we’ll ally with Russia. Unless something drastically unexpected good happens like most Republicans drop dead, I think we are royally fucked without the required bloodshed.

My impression is as of right now this is being pushed by 55% and that 45% are against it. Even Texas in the vote was 55-45%, that means each State gets to look forward to its own little Civil War even California. And if it all goes to shit, I don’t think I’ll mind that much checking out. 😳

It's weird explaining my situation right now.

See, when I was younger, I always wondered how I'd react if and when the big scary thing that everyone will get suckered into comes about. Would I see it for what it is? Would I be one of the enablers, pulled in by the base glizt and glamor of it all? Would I know enough to stand against it? Would I stand against it?

Now, it's here, and I know how I'm reacting.

I'm Nero, and I'm ready to play my goddamn fiddle.

Interestingly if I was in a situation of being on a hill watching a civil war play out below there are a handful of conservatives I’d want there with me as a friend, not for a “you did this!”.

Having said that, I agree with somebody who recently said you need to respect a person’s vote but you aren’t obligated to respect them. There’s differences of opinion and then there’s people who are just, well, garbage. And I’m not blanketing that term on everybody who voted for Trump.

I’m roughly with you guys, to my surprise. I can usually be objective about major events but this week I’m displaying signs of depression, which is a first. I assume I’ll pull it together but my faith in our government functioning for the good of the people (to the extent they ever do) is shattered.

If the GOP does take the House, Trump’s administration will have to identify a boogeyman to explain his inevitable failures. That may sound tricky but the boogeyman doesn’t have to be plausible for his low information base.

The new boogeyman will be the secret society of techboards.net members. They've already infiltrated it with a spy but they're so incompetent it's blatantly obvious to everybody who it is.

"They'll never suspect the only vocal conservative!"

"Nice one, Connor. Stupid libtards!"

I think we could all use some laughter,

This will piss you off..until it doesn’t. 🤣

I disagree we need another Obama. That time has passed. You could even argue he shares the blame of both Biden and Harris. He’s the ineffectual Trump of the Democrats. If nothing else people are tired of well spoken politicians with meritocracy credentials. We need somebody with the youth and adversarial fighting crave of Newsome with the rhetoric of Bernie and they need to embrace the shared and justified anger on the right.

It really was not about anger. It was about bullshit. Reason stood forth and cried out "Listen to me!", but the cry of reason was no match for the relentless typhoon of bullshit. It is not clear if there is a viable tool for fighting that, especially when every media source supports it.

I am despondent. I woke up in the middle of the night and the burn was stronger than ever. I take faint comfort in the fact that the country is going to basically collapse (in large part due to the environmental damage that we have been accelerating for decades) and the RW will not escape the blame for it. The national and global situation is going to get very ugly before the end of the decade, which will not work in favor of whosoever is in power.

But it will also not be good for most of the rest of us. I believe there will eventually be progress, out of the ashes, but few of us here will be around to see it.

Everyone who voted for Trump, the motivation can be attributed to selfishness or stupidity and a very garbage-like willingness to forgo democracy for what’s percieved as self advantage. You know, they look normal until they open their mouths, and let something heinous slip out.

That said, we are all selfish, yet the difference between Trump MAGOTs and Never-Trump might be intelligence, empathy, a realistic view of our state of existence, an understanding of group realities and dynamics living among millions, while not relying on destructive, self serving fantasy bullshit.

I’ve made this argument before, maybe not here, but it’s possible that billions of humans on the planet simply does not work. The evidence is before us, we’re taking the Planet down as we consume it, And since we won’t volunteer to reduce our numbers, instead we’ll careen towards self destruction, realizing or not realizing what the end goal is, reducing our numbers. 🔥😳
