Cats

This is Tom

He was sleeping on a lower deck of the USS Maine when it exploded in Havana harbor. He and the captain's pug Peggy were among the survivors. The explosion threw Tom through 3 decks but somehow he managed to land on his feet on a piece of wreckage where he was found the next day.

I find it hard to laugh at this joke, because I've found it to be the opposite. The only cat I've been attacked by was rescued off the street less than a week prior, and he lived with us for another decade after that without problems. Our current cat seems to really only have it out for raccoons (why?). And there's plenty of stories of cats waking up owners who were having breathing issues while asleep (sleep apnea), protecting members of the family in danger (see below), and so on.

I guess I'm a little tired of the jokes of "cats don't care" (and the whole Dog vs Cat dynamic in many of them) when our cat has been getting me through a tough part of my life while at the same time fighting two different cancers of her own. She has more empathy and compassion than many people I know, even though she's also going through a lot.

We were looking for cats drawings and found this on a book. The artist name is Claudine Titeca
“All our best friends have no less than 4 legs” 😉

She paints the kittens on small stones, exactly what we are trying to do

Yeah, the idea that cats are always aloof and not in touch with their humans has become a meme, though we cat lovers know differently.

The night before we had our cat put down, he came in our bed, lay between us, and let us pet him for a few hours, something he hadn’t done in quite some time. I think he sensed our sadness and knew something was up. I will always remember him that way.

We had Suki, my late father's siamese, who had a voice for stripping wallpaper and she used it alot. My Nefurtari tolerated her but was not too fond of her. One evening, though, Nefurtari let Suki share my lap with her – that turned out to be Suki's last evening, and I think Nefurtari could sense that. My Nefurtari was not a sociopath.

Yup. Ours has been glued to me since my mother passed earlier this year. And she got extra cuddly when I was stressing out dealing with the initial breast cancer diagnosis.

And yeah, dogs are more straight-forward to train and more suitable for certain tasks. But the flip side is that when a cat decides to engage with you? It’s clearly their choice. How they socialize is just different, not necessarily better or worse. And both cats and dogs can lash out at people if they have a history of abuse.

I’ll admit, she was a bit of a terror this last weekend because she was bored, wanted leash time badly, and the sutures from surgery were bothering her. Already she’s chilled out so far today with the sutures gone and has been sleeping more deeply. I guess the sutures were making it hard for her to sleep. She’s still bored, but I think anyone (cat, dog or person) would be getting stir crazy after 2 weeks mandated bed rest.

But, it's done out of love :ROFLMAO:

Cat related equipment!

We generally don't leave her alone for more than two nights, which is a typical stay for our recurring Orlando trips. With 3 nights or more, we usually take her to her Vet's kennel service, super nice, they love her there, and we get her general checkup done, nails, etc.

This past trip, it was a 3-nighter, but we got some new gear, and she seemed to love it, and wasn't as nutty when we got home (vs. a kennel stay).

We've had a snack feeder, fully networked for remote access, can fire them on demand, it allows for recording a 30 second audio clip so the wife calls her, it flashes a light, works great. We have a camera pointed at her food/snack/water area to monitor snack delivery.

Trip before last, it was just a 2-nighter, but instead of just leaving out food (since she's get a little over-indulgent), the wife scored a simple two bay, battery power timer feeder, it was OK for wet food, but works great for dry.

So to accommodate a longer feeding duration / more feeds, and provide some tasty wet food, we picked up this nice refrigerated feeder. It's also network remote, can trigger it manual, or schedule (both the open and the close times), and it keeps the wet food super nice. It has 3 trays, so handles fresh food for 3 evenings - and it also has a very slick proximity sensor of some sort, so it logs the amount of time, and when, the kitty shows up (after the dinner bell chime) and eats (and she immediately figured it out). Runs off USB power, but also has a battery backup.

Cats are going to Cat no matter the size.

Cat had issues keeping anything down earlier this week, meds or food. Took her in and they found a cyst that has a bunch of "intermediate sized lymphocytes". So either some sort of infection reaction, or it's the lymphoma progressing and no longer small cell, which is a bad sign. Stable for now, while we wait for the PARR test results to confirm/eliminate intermediate grade lymphoma. But trying to keep her comfortable and happy while we can.

The funny thing is, the last bad flare up she got earlier this year, she hid. This bad flare up, she came and harassed me until we took her in. I swear she picked up on the fact that we do something to make her feel better, and was trying to get me to "do the thing" to make it better.

Pretty sure you are being judged for taking that picture. LOL.

At the moment, I figured I had died ...

"Are you here to lead my soul to the afterlife?"

"No, I'm wondering who's going to get my dinner this evening ..."
