The Republican Agenda 2021 and Forward

I get it, this congressman should be punished for pulling the alarm. But as per usual, the anger on the right is laughable.

There would probably be less reaction had he simply fessed up. But instead, he had his first story until the video came out.

Steve Scalise is asking for support to be the next speaker. Good luck, he’s another feckless pawn and it will probably end the same. I’m watching Fox tonight, these people are incapable of learning ANYTHING. It is a brainwashed cult, it really is. Newt Gingrich made a lot of sense if not for the fact everything he said about Gaetz and co. applies to Trump ten-fold. None of these nitwits have barely even acknowledged Trump, and if they do, it’s in a positive light.

It seems like the litmus test will be their unwillingness to deal with Democrats. Democrats seem to have the same agenda against Republicans in general and IMO nothing truly meaningful will ever get done as long as that's the case.

In their days Pelos, Gingrich, and Boehner made tough choices to come to agreements with their respective presidents/houses and while nobody fully agreed on them (from both sides) progress was actually made for the good of everyone. We're a long way from that right now.

This isn’t really a both sides issue. Every single time there has been a government shutdown in the last 30 years it has been Republicans in charge in the House. Every single time. Now the Republicans can’t even agree within themselves. The Democrats have their issues, no doubt, but the two sides are not the same with respect to government dysfunction. Many republicans practically run on a platform that government can’t function and when in office are intent on proving the point.

Edit: see also the Hastert rule

Lawrence O'Donnell last night gave interesting examples of how previous GOP presidents actually supported government initiatives that today's MAGA morons would loudly oppose - Nixon willingly signed legislation establishing the Environmental Protection Agency and also proposed some form of health care policy, the Interstate Highway System was built under Eisenhower (not that it was without some unfortunate consequences) and he did not oppose continuation of the social support programs that were established under Roosevelt, etc.

Jim Jordan has announced he's running for Speaker. Lots of luck with this clown! :ROFLMAO:
I would think it's a steep hill for any one of the crazy 6, most of the Republican party hates them for causing all of this.

And Title IX, barring discrimination with respect to gender, sexual orientation, etc at any educational institution that receives federal funding. A huge win for girls and women who were routinely barred from pursuing their dreams.

The only person who will be allowed to be the Republican speaker is a member of the Itty Bitty Suspicious Activity Committee or be subservient to it. If you aren’t a member or a supporter then your entire platform is try to avoid you or your family getting shot and killed by a MAGA nutter, period.

Someone help me decipher this mess...

"The Senate Judiciary Committee recently held a hearing into so-called "book bans." My message to Congress was simple: books aren’t being banned, and it’s good that they are."

So democrats shouldn't call a book ban a book ban... but we should definitely call anything republicans disagree with "porn".

Let me put it in a way whoever this Max Eden (author) can understand: You are not an incorrect asshole, but you are a very wrong sphincter.

I think, given the choice, a lot of people would gladly settle for another term with Nixon as president compared with the deranged monster Trump.

Yeah... Nixon was for sure a crook. But an order of magnitude less evil than trump.

That was way back when Republican politicians were for the most part honorable and ethical, and on-board with the notion of law and order. Republican legislators told Nixon if he didn't quickly resign they'd impeach him. End of story, no fuss, no muss. With legislator's honor and ethics intact.

And here we are today with republican legislators (with the exception of two) and the republican voting populace still kissing trump's ass and supporting his presidential run, and in the process tossing out any honor and personal ethics. Apparently fomenting the Jan6th insurrection and attempted coup while trashing the Constitution and threatening Democracy wasn't that much of a biggie.

Nixon was smarter and somewhat less of a sociopath (he had an actual interest in governing unlike the orange homunculus), but there’s a lot of evidence that Nixon helped scuttle a peace deal in Vietnam to win his first election. As a private citizen he promised the South Vietnamese that he’d increase in their support if he won to try to convince them to delay/withdraw from talks the Johnson government was holding. It should be noted that the South Vietnamese may have done so anyway and his overtures changed little, but the intent is still pretty bad.

Love how the far right tried to elevate Democrat RFK Jr to hurt Biden’s chances but now that he’s running as an Independent they are freaking out because polls are now showing he’ll hurt Trump’s chances. 🤣

It took all of about 15 seconds after he announced running to determine that he’d be most appealing to right-wing nutters.

I don't know. As long as he keeps supporting reparations he won't be much of a threat to the GOP candidate.
